6 star: 175cm or 182cm?

OK, here's the deal. I skied on some 182cm Volkl 6-stars and loved them. I've been looking for a post season deal on a pair, but 182cm is very hard to find. I know this is a ski that can be skied short, so I'm wondering if 175cm would be suitable for me. Won't be able to demo any before I buy. I'm 6'1" and 235 lbs, and ski moderately to agressively.

168cm is the right choice. I'm 5'11", 240 lbs and the 175 is too long. The 175 gives up too much agility and gains very little high speed stability as opposed to the 168. Don't even think about 182.

Ooh, man.... I don't agree with that at all. I have skied the 6 star in all 3 lengths. It depends on what kind of skiing you do. I actually like the 182 the best. It feels like a super fun, turny GS race ski, with no speed limit. The 175 feels more like a long slalom ski, but can be skied much faster than a slalom. The 168 IS essentially a slalom ski. 14.4 meters at 168. Most slalom skis today are 165's, and have a turning radius of 12.5 to 14 meters.

So basically, what kind of turns do you want to make?

Your size and weight, 182. Though I think 175 would still be approp., esp. if you can get a deal on them. Same price? Go long.

I've skied the 168 and 175 and liked the 168 better but I like the feel of quick short snappy turns. You can really load up the tails to catch air between turns. I'm 6'0 205. I have a friend that is 6'3 235lb's very fast and agressive expert skier. He skis it in a 175 and loves them. I agree with u p racer about the personality of this ski, it depends on your style of skiing.

Indeed, I'm 6' and 170 lbs and ski 175 cm 6 stars and love them. While I do like speed, I did not see a major difference between the 168 and 175 sizes in terms of turn initiation.

Compared to my current skis (K2 Axis 188cm, approx 18m radius) both the 182 and the 175 will seem like slalom skis! Sounds like I can go with either one.... The fact that the 175 is going to be most different from my current getup is actually a good reason to go in that direction. I like the tight turns of the 182 when I skied them, so 175 should be even more fun.

thanks for the inputs,
