I hike this terrain a lot starting from the top of Sierra lift or from the the top of Mountain Chief lift. Last season I hiked it 12 time. Frankly, it's faster than waiting in line for a seat in the wagon of the snowcat and it's a great hike. Last year 2 Ptarmigan walked right by me to the cornice edge on the Copper Bowl side and just stood together looking out over the cornice. Love birds. You don't get that experience in a cat. I also enjoy trying to best my fastest hiking time.
I did it once last year from the Mountain Chief lift. It almost killed me! I'll give myself a little credit in that I was way overdressed and poorly hydrated.
Just what is your best time? I know it took our group an hour.
