Fu**ing Road Signs

Thread Starter
There´s a place in Austria called Fu*king. They have installed new heavy-duty road signs because the standard ones got stolen on a regular basis. English speaking tourists are said to be the most agile thieves, sorry, souvenir hunters.
They already considered to change the name but decided against and in favor of the tradition. The village is said to be almost 1,000 years old, and the present form with –ing is a later change.

More (incl. the photo of the sign):

(I hope the link works though there appear the ******* instead...)

Also: list of unusual names worldwide

Did you know there was a place called Pe*is in Uruguay, *unt in Albania and S*it in Iran?

(I didn´t until I googled for Fu*king an hour ago because I needed the info for an article. I should be reading Waisteering Revisited instead where new posts appear faster than I manage to read but I couldn´t resist...)

Sorry but it´s still summer...

If it isn't clear, all you have to do is click on the link and then when you get the error message replace the ******* with the offending place name. The sign with the children below makes the effect even stranger.

Here ya go!

Here is a way to get the link working without offending anyone. Now you can just click the link and it will take you there.

Man, that is one of the funniest things I have come across for a while now. I need to add this place to my list when I go back to Germany!

I'm still laughing at this.

I've been there... Been to Intercourse, PA, too. Not to mention Kissing, Austria, and a few other neat towns.

But when I saw the subject line, my first thought was "OUCH!"

Not quite as bad as C*nt

When I was in Honduras this past spring, I saw a guy wearing a shirt that had a logo that said "Bimbo". I snickered and moved on. Then I saw even more shirts and logos with this word on it. Finally found out that this Company name is the Honduran equivalent of Wonderbread - and the signs are EVERYWHERE - I saw a billboard 12 feet high proudly proclaiming BIMBO!!!!

: I love the sign of F*****g with the two kids (a young boy and a girl) with the words "nicht so schnell" underneath. This has got to be a joke. Sick german or Austrian sense of humor. I know, I have been married to one for almost 20 years. I think the german equivalent is bumsen oder ficken (but you did not hear this from me).:

"Not so fast" with the children - you´re right! It simply didn´t occur to me, maybe because I wrote it in haste. Schön zweideutig! Normally they would put a 40 kmh traffic sign there...

Your equivalents which you haven´t used are natürlich correct. (How many years did you say? ) The second one is mentioned in the accompanying text.

There is a town in NC called Climax and the local gas station sells t-shirts that read: Climax- where people come together.

Now thats funny.

There is also a molybdium mine here in Colorado called Climax. It is near Copper Mountain. But, I'm fairly sure that they don't sell T-shirts, LOL.

The best part of Intercourse, PA is that it's a mere 3 miles from another town called Paradise, leading to the saying "to get to Paradise, you have to go through Intercourse ".

The origins of the post are not a bored guy killing time with the computer (me ).
I read about the place in one of our newspapers that day. It was Austrian and since most of our skiers ski in the neighboring Austria when in the Alps it caught my interest. It could make a few lines in our mag, I thought. 80-90 percent of what I write (which is my job) are serious ski topics but a mag also needs something entertaining to be readable and attractive.
Finally, I decided to share the fu**ing place with English-speaking Bears here, especially now in summer.
That´s the whole truth, Detective, I swear.

The same day I heard it on the radio here, and then no one admits that the press system is centrally co-ordinated
post #25 of 27
It was on the radio here too....

I don´t know exactly how it works but I can imagine that it appears for some reason (here: a typical summer topic) in some of the big press agency releases or in some source which get monitored globally. A thing like that is simply very rewarding everywhere, especially in summer.
I was foolish enough to believe how original my post was...
Nah, you were not foolish, it was fun to read about it here!
