I don't mind snowboards/snowboarders.

They always seem to know where the good stuff is, and few are as snobby as most middle aged skiiers

When ever I try and pass a skier they turn for no reason, cut me off and sometines they make me hit them. What kind of person turns on a green run?

LOL...I saw that firsthand while hiking left gulley @ Tucks this past spring! There was a group of kids in their late teens/early 20's sitting up top, ostensibly attempting to recover from the hike up. We sat down next to them to do the same, when all of a sudden one of them whipped out a pipe & corresponding green filler. Before he could even get a lighter out (which given the 50+ mph winds coming off the snowfields was a lost cause to begin with) several of his buddies started yelling in pseudo gangster slang "Yo, is you out yo mind dawg?! Look how steep that sh!t is!" Ahh, yes...much more effective than the D.A.R.E. Program!!

To me, a snowboard is just one big wide ski. Some snowboarders know how to ski it, some just take turns scraping off snow and sitting on the trail watching their friend scrape off snow.

Do snowboarders ride their motorcycles side-saddle?:

All I can say is thank god for terrain parks it keeps most of the KDI'S (knuckle draggin idiots for those on the west coast: ) off the good runs so the rest of us carving junkies can cut up the good stuff!! And it is so much fun watching a boarder catch their front edge and do a pile driving face plant! life is good!!!

I know a fellow who pulled his car over and asked for someone else to drive. It seemed to him that the hill on the road was too steep and he was in danger of tipping his car end over end. The road had about a 2 degree slope to it. I Don't know what kind of hash he was smoking.

First off I don't know what type of smoking you're referring to, although I don't think it's the same type I was. If you routinely see 1 skier & 2 snowboarders smoking, well, they're just asking for a complimentary set of chrome bracelets. So if we're talking about cigarette smokers, the answer is fairly simple: They're physically and mentally addicted. If you think they look desperate on a mountain, you should spend 12+ hours in an airplane with a few smokers!

As for the phenomena you've described (2 riders for every two-planker), it's most likely a combination of demographics and your own personal prejudice towards snowboarders. Just as conservatives see massive evidence of liberal bias in the media, the anti-snowboard crowd is naturally more tuned in to the actions of snowboarders.

Cigarettes are just another form of natural selection... since the "parents eating their young" thing doesnt carry over to the human species we need something to weed out those who are unfit.

Obviously you don't know who you're dealing with!

Skistarr90, I found your public profile very illuminating; it really helped me understand your point of view. Thanks for being so forthright and honest.

Now now VA, I'm willing to wager that blizzards are at the top of the list in regards to favorite terrain for many of us around these parts!

Actually, I was referring to his birthdate. I love skiing in blizzards!

Volantaddict, as long as the thread has departed from its path long ago....Speaking of his birthdate, what were you doing in 1990? I'm curious if you are a native Montanan. I was in the process of moving from Ohio to California and had just bought a new pair of Hart skis and Koflach boots (a mistake that I think cannot be replicated). My kids were only 5 and 8, and I was about 15 years younger at the tender age of 36. Arguably, I still looked OK in a swim suit on the NACRA 5.7 catamaran, which now mostly sits on dry land. No wonder SkiStarr90 makes me feel old.:

Hmmm...1990 I was a fine arts major at University of Oregon, a hitch-hikin'-tie-dye-making-bead-stringin'-pot-smoking-acid-trippin'-Grateful-Dead-dancin'-hippity-dippity-trippity-freak. Ah, those were the days!

Snow boarders are people just like us. The term "punk " was used - I'd say most are punk wan-a-be's. The true punks are few and far between and I prefer a true punk to some rich kid with an attitude any day. I don't mind seeing people smokin bones on the mountain. It reminds me of the good ol days. I've been on the receiving end of their $h!t, but I'm not afraid to get right in their face and give it back. They are mostly kids who run when you say boo.

For the most part they are just people who's sport is unfulfilling. Most of these guys will drop boarding by their 25th birthday. I enjoy being on the mountain with anyone who has passion about the experience.

The only other point I would make - East vs. West is a factor. Snowboards are real bad for surfaces. They polish the ice. As I see it in the East, it's an evil tool.

I'm going to call on the moderator/administrators to just go ahead and kill these threads before they get going...they continually prove to be nothing but a waste of time and energy as well as a source of frustration to all...
