anyone know if fischer is doing the ~163 marked as a 166 with tip deflector thing again this year in light of the new 'running surface' measurement guidlines?

I had the chance to see Fischer's race skis for 05-06 at their demo center at Gov't Camp, Mt. Hood earlier this month. They are not using the tip extensions this coming season.

FISCHER ADULT WC SL

CHANGES FOR 2005/2006:

Adult SL 165
We will still have two legal versions of this ski for 2005-2006. The 161 with a plastic tip (measures 165) is back with a slightly softer flex pattern and we also have the true 166 SL. These are both WC proven skis, the 161 is a great option for smaller athletes or someone looking for a bit more aggressive ski to run a tighter line. The 166 is a very solid SL machine, this is the same ski that Mario Matt won on at World Cup finals. We had great success with both of these skis last season from the grassroots to the World Cup.

Although I didn't see any tip extensions on any of the Fischer skis at the Demo Center this summer at Hood, it sure looks like they they will still be around.
Thanks for the post.

Does last years Fischer 161 WC SL graphic say 166 on it or 161?
I've seen them both ways, but I have two pair, one with the deflector and one without and they both say 166 on them: .

Last yr's 161 with plastic tip is marked 166. When comparing it side-by-side with a 165 Rossi 9S WC, it is clear that the Fischer is a shorter ski.

They still sell it, but I don't know for whom as it is not FIS legal anymore. Nose extensions don't count anymore AFAIK. correct me if I'm wrong.

I just got the new USSA rulebook for 06 and it says nothing about running length, it's all the same as last year.
^ Same here. I didn't find anything different from last year regarding ski length.
