Earth Quake (Verdi NV)

We just had a fair Quake felt like a 4.X here in Verdi. no big deal, none of the houses fell off the hills around here. My concern is that we don't really have quakes here just feel the fringe of what happens in the Bay area. Too early for news yet. How are those in the Bay area doing?? Did we just have a big one down there??

See any news anywhere? about a bigger quake (Bay Area) Its so rare that we would be near the epicenter of a small quake.

OK:

The EarthQuake was a 4.8 and it was local. (Truckee CA) The USGS site has alot of stuff

4.8 is the current report

Remember that the Sierras are a relatively new mountain range and earthquakes are to be expected. Building codes dictate that earthquakes WITH snow load should be engineered. Having said that our house really rattled there for 10 seconds or so.

It DID NOT GET QUIET

F-ing aviators. They don't seem to know that there are people on the ground. Who can actually hear them. It's a zoo up there and some (many ?) pilots don't seem to care about their impact on the community. Selfish b*st*rds :

Oh, and our dogs started barking about 40 seconds after the event - dumb b*st*rds :

Where we live we rarely get blasted by the jets, only two or three so far today. But I was awoken to the sound of a prop plane at 6:36 am. Thanks guys. I didn't realize it was going to be a 'bad' day, but should have got a clue. A friend's Jack Russell got taken by a coyote at 5:00am today :

Our dogs bark for the sake of barking. The earthquake didn't seem to phase them at all.

I thought folks come up to the mountain for the peace and quiet. For the relaxed atmosphere. The clean air. Whatever. Yet they blast up in their jets and props (burning leaded gas) and SUVs and rush around trying to relax. Next week is 4th July. Heaven help us.

Sorry pet peave, and quick rant

Yep the 4th is a ZOO!! @ And around the Lake. Squaw is counting dimes and not going to open for skiing the 4th. So I am going to fly to Snowbird Friday ski the last three days, Fly back to Reno and watch fire works in town.
Squaw just pisses me off (Again) they are all business. Hint for 3 months that they will be open and then after people have made plans, blow it off. Skiers are going to be pissed. (Long term damage to rep)

While I agree that Squaw fails to manage expectations I am not the slightest bit surprised that they can't be bothered to re-open skiing next weekend. I disagree with you that their reputation has suffered any more long term damage. Just remember that the mountain, when it's open, is fantastic, the attitude appalling. "We care". Same old sh*t. You'll be back As will I :
