Digital Cameras

My mom is thinking about getting my Dad a digital camera for Christmas but neither of us know much about them. So my question is: what would you recommend as being a good digital camera that isnt going to cost a fortune?? I have no clue about anything in the digital camera world so i need some advice.

it really depends on what kinda features you'd want. I mean, a new sony with all the gizmos on it is gonna cost a fortune, but if you don't mind sacrificing resolution and going for an older model and such, you can get the sony DSC-S70 for around $300 or so i'm guessing? 6x zoom, mpeg movie recording capability, and 2048x1536 resolution (which is more than enough for most ppl). This particular model is about 2 or 3 years old. So you should be able to find a pretty good price if you can find it sold somewhere.

Image quality is superb. It captures alot of details than you really need, so it might be a fun one to use

Also, there's one that sony has which also costs a fortune, but looks like it's mainly a lens only. if you can find one from 2-3 years ago, with lower resolution, you should be able to find one for about $200 or so. Same features as the S70 I just mentioned, but lower resolution. My family loves both cameras

if you want something new, though, i really can't help you...though i would stay away from those that use CD-R's or RW's to record images...kinda bulky.

hope this helps a bit.
