You think there are no horrid students? I have tried to leave my private lesson before.... (new instructor - not regular one- refused to listen so I left - he physically stopped me (bad move) - by the time my regular instructor returned he had been told I was upset by others in ski school)
You might want to take a look at the Dalbello Krypton boot. http://www.dalbello.it/ It has a tounge that folds down front and should allow you to get an AFO (ankle foot orthosis) into it fairly easily. It also opens up fairly easily to get in and out of. It has a nice flex that can be adjusted by changing out the tounge. Also, some other nice features.
Sometimes we use a student's AFO if it fits in the boot. However, you need to remember that a boot is nothing more than an AFO itself. So, most times it isn't needed. The only thing needed is the footbed to hold the foot in a good position.
Sounds like you had a Sh.ty Instructor. I would have had a long talk with the Ski School Director about that one.
