Countdown to 10,000

EpicSki membership stats show we're now at 9013. This post is to recognize the 9,000 milestone and solicit ideas of how we might properly commemorate 10,000.

One way would be to bring back the membership number posted next to your name. I kinda miss that.

Having 10,000 would be cool, too.

Play some 10,000 Mainiacs.

Only problem with that is there are gaps in the numbering, Duplicate users (people with multiple usernames, deleted users and banned users (spams) so it's not a true reflection of the actual member count. It would be cool to have that user number however.

It's more of a "milestone" number and a fun thing to look forward to.

Any chance of banning that fillerxxx guy?
Ahh Yes. The fillerxxx guys. If we knew who they were, we could give them back their proper names. The fillerxxx usernames were a result of our last big forum crash that brought us to this version of the forum software.

Noooooooo. I hate that song. It makes me want to pull off my fingernails.

For our last celebration we had a contest to predict when the xxxxx-th (can't recall the exact number) member signed up. Matteo won a pair of Power Straps. I think that was in the fall of 2003.

Freesa06? Freesa07?
How about an award for the person who guesses when the 10,000th member will sign up, and an award for the 10,000th member?

(Now to rummage around, and see if I can come up with something)

Just so Foxy can come with all of those clever "variant" aka's .... and bomb the board with his imaginary "friends" like Hugh Jarse?

On the other hand it is summer and some humor is needed.

Ya know - I think that Hugh Jarse is a stalker. Everytime I turn around, there he is - right "behind" me. Hugh Jarse follows me everywhere I go. I can't even change clothes without seeing that Hugh Jarse right there behind me in the mirror. I've tried, but I just can't seem to shake that freaky Hugh Jarse.

I've met Hugh. I used to have an alt on here, but not any more.

What's wrong with indoor snow in the summer?

Oh yeah, it's only 15 miles from me, but about $40 per hour...

So, you're really saving money by not taking a date to a film?

why not celebrate number 9,713 with a big hoopla?

I mean, it's just as logical as celebrating 9,000 or 10,000.

they're only numbers. numbers are nothing but placekeepers.

remember how your computer was going to implode on 1/1/2000?

jeezus.

Not enough lead time to stock up on enough Nexium/Prilosec/TUMS/Seltzer for a REAL party.

definition by fable: littlechickenheads aren't looking for a good time.

Gonzo, it doesn't matter what number we decide to celebrate, what we are celebrating remains the same: a growing community of people who might ski together sometimes, in fact or in imagination. For ease of recall, 10,000 is a great number, even if the actual membership is something less than 10,000.

Who should get lucky when that number rolls around? The unsuspecting newbie? Or should we make a contest of predicting the time/date when the person assigned number 10,000 rolls around and let a longer-term member benefit?

If we did the contest, how far away from 10,000 should we be open for entries?

Perhaps there's a more interesting idea of how to celebrate than a contest to guess when the 10,000th registers? Maybe we should reward supporters by randomly selecting one of them to receive a pair of skis or something equally substantial, to occur on the day the 10,000th member appears?

We have a little time to hash this out: 9030 showed up today--welcome to EpicSki, jrmgilbert!!!

How about a pair of ski poles to the person who guesses the nearest?

There's always the option of doing nothing at all. Considering which is what made me think we should do something.

I can neither confirm nor deny the rumour bubbling around that a competition will be held in the Supporters Lounge.
Let the competition begin!
