Jim and Edna

Jim and Edna were both patients in a mental hospital. One day while they were walking past the hospital swimming pool, Jim suddenly jumped into the deep end. He sank to the bottom of the pool and stayed there.

Edna promptly jumped in to save him. She swam to the bottom, pulled Jim out and brought him to his room.

When the hospital director became aware of Edna's heroic act, she immediately ordered that Edna be discharged from the hospital because she now considered Edna to be mentally stable.

She went to Edna and said, "I have some good news and some bad news".

The good news is that you're being discharged because you responded so rationally to a crisis. By jumping in the pool to save the life of another patient, you displayed sound mindedness. The bad news is that Jim, the patient
you saved, hung himself in his bathroom with his bathrobe belt right after you saved him. I am so sorry, but he's dead.

Edna replied, "He didn't hang himself. I put him there to dry. How soon can I go home?"

This reminds me of my friend Eddie's wife.

Eddie was my boyfriends brother (this was 1976). He married Elie, a Phillipino he met while in the Navy. They had 4 kids, the youngest one was 3 when I met them.

She was pretty cool......till she "got God". She literally went off in the deep end. She started going to church weekly, then daily, then it got to the point where she stopped being a person and just prayed all day. She really needed mental help, but Eddie said he didn't really want to take her away from the kids and have her committed......they had been arguing about her mental status for a while, and that was what was needed. Her total personality changed with the introduction of God into her life.

He thought a vacation might be a good idea. They went South for some winter warmth.

She had all this faith that God would save her no matter what, and she drowned in the deep end of the hotel pool trying to "walk on water" in the middle of the night. She couldn't swim.

God saved her all right. She left those 4 kids without a mother. She was 31 years old.
