Stupidity never fails to amaze me. Got a story for ya.
Last week, I got off work at 9:15. It's dark out, and the store had been closed for 15 minutes.
Just outside was a guy about 35 and a kid of about 12. He has a lumber cart full of pressure treated woods....lots of 1x8x12, 4x4x10, some decking material and (3) 5 gallon buckets of Henry roofing tar. There is also a flat cart with some lumber on it. I didn't take inventory of that one, because he was doing something STUPID.
Keep in mind that this cart is stuffed........top to bottom, side to side. Hundreds of pounds of lumber.
He has a pick up truck. He's stacking the 12 footers in the truck with one end in the truck against the tailgate, and the boards leaning on the cab and the other end is hanging over the front of the cab at a dangerous angle, sticking up into the air no less than 5 feet. He has about 10 of these already in the truck, with that FULL cart to load. If I had to guess, I'd say that there was about 6 inches of tailgate left before he ran out of room.
I stop, like a fool, and say, "Would you like some help loading this? I can go in and get a couple of guys to help you?" I thought I'd save him some work, because this would NEVER make it down the road 10 feet. First bump......it's all out of there.
He says, "No, we can get it. I'm going to hold all this down with those buckets of tar".
: He was building a great catapult.
I said "Ok, if you're sure....have a good night.....Drive Safely!!", and he picked up another board, tried to shove it up, the boy straining and losing his grip and whining.....
I RAN to my car! No way did I want to stay and watch that!
Our lot guys say that it happens all the time. People buy big lumber, appliances, etc, and try to put this in a car with fold down seats. Insane.
Thanks, Dave. You made my day!
