2005 Atomic Metron M11 versus 2006 M11?

Has anyone been on the 2006 Atomic Metron M11? If so, can you comment on the ski and how it compares to the 2005 version?

Thanks!

The graphics are different, and I am hearing mixed responces that the tip is going from 129mm to 133mm. Past that I don't know much.

There was that rumor about the B5 Metron also. When mine came I measured them and the are 129mm but say 133 on the ski. They are identical to 04/05 in dimensions.

Perhaps they are measuring differently for 2006? K2 is doing this on the Recon for 2006. Rather than measure where the snow contacts the ski, they are now measuring the widest point of the tip.

I think that is exactly correct!

updates on the 05 vs 06 M11 comparison??

hi - I just purchased some new 05 M11's online, hoping that they would ski like the 06's that I demo'd this past winter. Now I am getting cold feet, wondering if they will be exactly the same or not. Can anybody comment on the differences please? I have 7 days to return them and no snow to try them out on! thanks

You will be fine, relax and plan some trips for next season.

A word of encouragement.

Advice based on logic.

Ask yourself this: Are the 05 M11s a good ski? If your answer is yes then don't fret. I am sure you paid less than half the price for the 05s as you will for the 06s. Are you looking for the perfect ski or a ski you will be happy with? I demoed the 06-07 M7 and bought the 05-06 M9 blind, based on my demo experience. Am I happy? You bet! I was able to get in 5 days on my new M9s and can assure you that the 05s are great. MY guess that the same is true for the M11s. Truth be told. Atomics ski a certain way. The 05 and 06 models are not going to be very different. They will ski basically the same. Its not like you demoed a Rossi and then bought an M11 based on the shape.

Check out the reviews for the 05s. I know people who would "kill" to get some 05 M11s at half price.

Ya know. Sometimes we just worry too much.

the question is are you comparing 04/05 to 05/06's or 06/07's?

If you bought 04/05's they are identical except graphics to the 05/06.

if you bout 05/06's and are contemplating 06/07's they are a very different ski!

Just curious, for my own edification. Aside from the different tip/tail demesions, how are the 06-07 M11s different? From my limited perspective the 131 tip of the 05-06 is more interesting/maybe better? than the 125 tip of the 06-07 model.

06/07 has B5 construction (beta 5) just like the B5 metron & the SX B5 and has less sidecut. Or put another way, has a longer turn radius. It is in the 15-17M range and sized slightly differently rather then the 11-13M like the current m11 & B5 metrons.

Well, FWIW, I wouldn't call the M:11 B5's construction "just like the B5". It's really not. It has some similarities, but it doesn't use the full-length Mg rods, doesn't have rods that run all the way to the tip/tail, etc.

I have heard (from Phil) that it skis well. But, it's not the same construction as the B5.

Picky, Picky, i didn't say it had "EXACTLY" the same construction, but the "B5 connected profile" is the same, even if the magnesium rods ain't.

It skis very well. IMHO, a much nicer and more versitile ski than either the M11 or the B5, the best of both skis.

What is the turn radius on the 170 cm M11 B5?
15m

M11 B5 Skis really well.

The idea behind this ski was a lighter, slightly less shaped B5. Atomic followed through great in my opinion. The power channels are shorter to make the ski lighter.

Photos of the Premium M11 B5

This is the Premium model only availiable at select stores. The normal version is same basic cosmetic but in a grey color.

I like the gold Select color better than the grey however. But you're right, pretty staid graphics. I'm thinking about getting a 170 cm this fall if I can sell my M11 and SX B5'S at the tent sale and raise some money, barter the rest.
My daughter is starting college this summer. My gear purchases will be less frequent for sure.

My purchases have slowed down too...I have only purchased one pair of skis so far for next year. (I do still have 2 pair that I have yet to mount )
