I agree with the prior comments that nothing else will improve your skiing quicker than racing combined with proper instruction (clinics/camps/etc.) and focused practice when free skiing. Racing also is a lot of fun and provides a helpful metric for tracking your improvement - a handicap. I would recommend that you start initially with a club league in Colorado.
Out here in northern California we have 3 club leagues (Singles League & Open League in the Bay Area Snow Sports Council www.skibac.org
plus Sierra League www.sierraleague.com
) which are part of Far West Ski Association www.fwsa.org
(6 western states) and the National Ski Club Federation www.skifederation.org
(total U.S.); corporate races like the Sierra Ski Classic; and USSA Masters racing www.farwestmasters.org
It looks like there is a club/corporate league in Colorado - TeamSki www.teamski.com
- which has a race camp as well plus there may be other club leagues.

Also since you are in the military according to your profile, you may wish to contact someone at TeamSki to get a contact for the Front Range Military Members team. Also, it looks like there are a variety of clubs that participate in this league so you should check them out as well.
Finally, there are some ski club directories that have state by state listings which may be helpful:
National Ski Council Federation (Council section) www.skifederation.org/Councils.htm
SkiSite.com (Clubs section) www.skisite.com/clubs.cfm

FoothillsSkiandBike - Other than TeamSki, what other club racing opportunities are there in CO? Does Foothills Ski & Bike or other CO ski clubs belong to any other ski club associations? Is there a website for your club?
