guests(hello?)

This has probably been addressed before(what hasn't)and perhaps it is a silly observation from a new member. Most times when I look to see who is signed into epicski there are more guests viewing the forum than members. I was a guest viewer for about 2 years....a specific topic got me to jump on and add my 2 cents....and mostly it is an enjoyable experience thus far. My opinion would be the more players the better. Spread the good word so to speak. I would tell guests reading this thread to jump in....but that is not really my place.....

What can be done to get more of the "guests" like myself to jump on board and participate. Do we care? Is it good the way it is? Thoughts from veteran bears? (I do plan to pony up a contribution $$$ soon and become a supporter so we can skip that valid speech.....)

Any takers?:

I would encourage everyone to participate at all levels, but I suspect that there are a number of reasons for so many guests...

One is, there may be some who come only once and never return. I can't imagine why, but there you have it. Others may actually be members, but haven't logged in for some reason. Still others may prefer simply to read, so they don't bother to join. There are a few functions (like thread subscriptions) that they can get if they join, even if they don't post.

Then, again, many are afraid of posting. It doesn't help when new posters are not greeted with the kindest of responses. That said, some of us don't mind rehashing old threads, while others would prefer to have people search for the old ones. Me? I'd rather have a bunch of members contributing positively. It will come as no surprise to folks who have read my posts this season that I don't appreciate inane commentary or trolls.

Steve,
My computers both sniff the cookies and epic knows it's me immediately, can't do "guest" on my computers/don't bother to block cookies....never thought that sometimes members might not sign in....that likely explains a lot of the " guest " traffic.

Appreciate your feedback, no one is more caring and welcoming towards new members than you. You go way out of your way to make newbies welcome. A true ambassador indeed. I actually might not have joined myself had I not seen your welcoming posts to new threads....corny, but true. It does make a difference. Thanks!

We defin have a couple of real trolls patrolling these waters....continue to stay ever watchful....not good. I can think of a couple in particular I would ban...but free speech rules I guess....not a bad thing. I expect those trolls scare away a lot more good new members that we imagine. Just a hunch. Almost scared me off, but I have hung in there so far.....
