Reno / Tahoe area motels

Thread Starter
Hi,

I am planning a trip to the area around the end of April / beginning of May for some spring skiing and I’m looking for a place to stay for a week or two. I found these adds listing weekly rentals, has anyone stayed at any of them? Maybe you’ve driven by and they look like dumps? Any advice is appreciated as this is my first time visiting the area, thanks !

If you check in as a single guy, the desk manager will have your phone ringing off the hook all night. Prostitution is legal in Reno.

Prostitution is not legal in Reno. It is legal in the next county over, 8 miles out of Reno.
The Victorian Inn is a nice place, I believe, but at that time of year, you could probably find similar deals in Tahoe, especially South Lake. Almost nobody (as in Bay Area skiers) skis in late April/early May.

why reno? - other places closer to the skiing. probably don't have to worry too much about rooms then either. stay in tahoe city or south lake tahoe if you are going to be skiing.

Hola! We're planning on Tahoe and Mammoth next 12/29-1/11: For Squaw and Alpine Meadows, what's better North Shore or Reno, pricewise?

For Heavenly, any "great deals" in South Shore, or just drive down from North Shore?

And Mammoth, 7 nights Studio for family of 3 walk-to lifts and walk-to Town, cheapo?

Gracias Bears!

That's the peak part of the peak season. Nothing will be "cheap" at Lake Tahoe. Reno will be much cheaper; big casinos still higher than normal; chain hotels/motels should be about normal rates (Marriott, Best Western, etc.) and probably your cheapest nice option.

All mnt cruiser, was at Sierra at Tahoe yesterday, lots of snow but I hear that they are closing the 19th of April, are there going to be any resorts open in the TAhoe area at the end of April?
Squaw will be and I think Heavenly closes Apr 30 or May 1. The rest I'm not sure about.

Tis is five min from Heavenly, free shuutle to and from the mtn. Min away from other Tahoe resorts, lots of nightlife, great resturants.
The time frame your looking at, will be the start of thier shoulder season, you should be able to get a great deal.
Located right on the shore of Lake Tahoe. 75 miles from reno.

We stayed at this rental from VRBO earlier in the season. It's in a nice neighborhood in South Tahoe. Really clean and cozy unit and the owners are super nice.

Tks SJCzar, looking into this. Ullr, I await their reply. El Chupacabra (Karl), yes, we will probably base our Tahoe skiing, 5-6 days, in Reno, then move on to Mammoth.

Is Sparks okay for lodging?

Would you know of any property that will dazzle our 6 yr. old child?

I stayed at the Tahoe Biltmore in Crystal Lake, NV right on the Cal-Neva line. For $29 a night you can't beat that deal. It's a 3 star hotel and I doubt that even a 1 star motel will be cheaper then that.

Sparks is fine -- a bedroom community just East of Reno. If you're traveling to North shore ski areas, then Sparks will be just as fast as Reno hotels (maybe 5 minutes longer, if that).

The Reno Hilton has an entire lower level that's amusement park land ("Fun Quest"). Arcades, etc.

2 weeks ago, 2 of us stayed at Harvey's, So. Lake Tahoe, for $39.00 nightly Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Good room and walk to the Heavenly Gondola. I hope your skiing is as good!

Which hotel is it? Horizon? On weekdays its always cheaper. However, I have a phobia with Heavenly, so I stay at Carson City to ski at Kirkwood, or Reno Casinos to ski N. Tahoe Resorts. The larger Reno Casinos all have good rooms except I will not stay in Sands, the reason its cheaper is because it is next to the rail road, the trains will keep you up all night.

For N Tahoe skiing, the Cal-Neva casino resort [across from the Tahoe Biltmore, home of the $7.50 prime rib dinner] is convenient, & has great deals, with $79 packages incl. tickets.[Check to see if these are valid this late in the season.] www.calnevaresort.com Free shuttle to Alpine and Squaw, local bus [TART] to Homewood.
