Seems like most "all mountain" skis are getting fatter and fatter underfoot every year. I always thought fatter skis were for powder days. It's true that when I think "all mountain" I think of cruising, traversing, or hiking all over looking for steeps and powder stashes, but how much powder are we talking about. Is there another reason for the fatter underfoot technology?

Also, if you go fatter, should you go shorter?
