The Syrovatka Downhill at Jay Peak is an annual event (25 years and counting), taking place the first weekend in March. It's a citizen-class DH, very simple course with 6 or 7 turns and then a stright shuss to the finish (over a pro bump that clears a cat track). Top speeds are between 65 and 80 mph., depending on your ability. The only prerequeisites are long skis, a FIS-approved helmet (a.k.a. full-coverage), and the ability to sign your life away. They usually have one training run in the morning, followed by a race run in the afternoon.
It's a fun race. I did it about 6 years ago, using my trusty old Atomic 215 DH skis, and turned in a top-20 time (top speed of 79 mph.).
The Ragged Mountain DH is a little more loosely organized, usually with two of 'em in a season. The second one is typically held the week after Jay Peak. It's not as steep as the Jay Peak course, but it's still a lot of fun.
