innovative ski project

i'm currently participating in a product development class at my University...and have been working this past year on the development of a new and innovative ski and snowboard product...

PRODUCT BASICS
speed, altitude, time, and temp....
a integrated helmet and goggle system with a heads up display....allowing the user to focus on real time data with an UNOBSTRUCTIVE view of the terrain...

an actual prototype is being developed now...however I need your feedback....so if you could please fill out this survey for me or post your opinions or additional features that you think could be beneficial... that would be great!!!

thanks,
adam

I don't care how fast or what time it is when I'm skiing. But good luck on the helmet it's a cool idea.

I'm not sure a real-time speed indicator is a good idea, unless it also comes with a collision-avoidance radar. I envision someone taking a glance at the speedometer at 75 mph and not noticing a tree and/or person blocking the trail.

Why?

reason why...

-Ski performance watches....how valuable is a a "watch" to a skier...people will buy these suunto and garmen gps systems and will not be able to take full advantage of their features on the slopes...gloves and coat... yeah you can strap the watch on to the outside of your parka, but that doesn't satisfy people's desires for real time feedback...

what do people think about ski watches in general????

Only a marketing survey? I swear the people who push products on this site have no shame....

How about some interesting info on specifics of the design, maybe a picture of what the HUD would look like to someone using it? What would it look like from the outside? Would anybody other than my grandparents be cought dead wearing the thing?

Throw in some laser guided missles and anti-boarder chaff and I'm in. Will it have one of those BattleStar Gallactica red LED's going back & forth across the front of the goggles ... oooh, I hope so.

Looks like Bill Gates is trying to get some vertical integration going... : Possibly about as useful as tits on a bull…..

Will you have to reset or reinstall your helmet after every run or only after a double black bump run? Will the helmet be compatible with other manufacturer's integrated ski/binding set ups and will they integrate with the latest integrated ski/poles setup posted on these forums a while ago???

BTW, I haven't yet found a watch that made me a better skier or improved my enjoyment of the sport.

Snowsportinnovations, please try not to confuse skiing with video games. Perhaps your query should be directed towards a Nintendo users support group.

Well, unlike the others here, I like my Vertec watch. I use it for number of runs, total vertical, vertical per run, time, and temperature. I've been thinking about one of the more advanced options, but haven't done anything about it, yet. I find that my guests also appreciate knowing this, "Well, I know it doesn't seem like it, but we've done 12 runs and 20,000 vertical feet so far today..."

Unfortunately, it's battery died a few days ago, and I have to mail it in to have it replaced. Oh, well...

ssh - more information on your Vertec watch please. I can't seem to find anything about it.

Just imagine the conversation between the patrol and the tech freak skier
" I took a glance at my speed read-out on the inside of my goggles (because I have a huge ego) and didn't see the little girl...............thats why her dads fist came through the lens of my hightech super duper googles and broke my nose.

Heads up display works for - auto, and bike racing..... and what GM doesn't realize is MPH is the last thing you look for..... the only important guage is the tach, followed by Oil pressure, water temp, and a battery light (when alt dies, it means belt came off... means water temp will go very high)

While skiing, there is no vital thing you NEED to be watching. I think a very userfriendly computer datalogging program would be a much better sale. Use bluetooth technology. After skiiing, you walk to your lap top, and after rebooting windows cause it crashed, you get a display of everything you just did.

Even in ski racing MPH doesn't mean anything while your racing. If it did help, itd distract tooo much......

However, as a school project, sure........ I've seen very few practical projects

Searching some old threads here I found this link:

It looks like this has already been done (there's a picture of a skier with the HUD for snowsports as an example).

Sure... It fits in the, "I never would have bought it for myself, but I've used it a lot since my wife bought it as a gift" category:

yea, this reminds me of an idea a non-skier friend came up with : mounting rockets to one's skis to create a smoke-plume trail while skiing...well *he* thought it would be cool...

what is this, The Jetsons?

stupid technophiles.

maybe you could figure out a way to make this new SPACE AGE helmet make its wearer feel as though he's skiing while he's sitting at his desk?
