Vail for my birthday...

Thread Starter
OK, if anyone is around Vail on 26th March and wants to help me forget, please join me, prolly at the Sandbar.
Why? Well, my main reason for coming to America for the next week called a couple of hours ago to say she wasn't coming, so I'm now going to be there alone for the week. Needless to say, this has not got me thinking happy thoughts.
Hope to see some of you over the next few days.

Hey Fox,

Sorry to hear about the missed connection. If LM is hopping around ok on her own by then, and if I don't have to teach at Breck that day (I'm only scheduled for Sun/Mon but it is Spring Break season), maybe I'll make it over. If not, we should get together and hoist one or a few while you're in the area.

My party leaves on Sunday for Vail without me unfortunately. I have a work project that I must do next week. Not all bad, I'm meeting the infamous Xdog 1 in Long Island and picking up a pair of skis. If I'm lucky I'll get to Mammoth in late April and ski the Volant FB's the dog is hooking me up with.

I've gone to Vail many times alone. Great ski town comraderie . You'll have a blast. Plis it looks like you'll be experiencing a snow cycle.

Don't worry Fox, there will be plenty more where you're going. Don't dwell on the negative. Think of this as an opportunity. It was meant to be.

My original birthday plans had involved dinner at the Game Creek, which I'm told is quite good. I've cancelled that.
Well that settles it! We have to make you a birthday party. That will motivate me to be at least semi mobile by that time.
No worries, FOX! Some of us will be around to help you drown your sorrows.....
Fox? Was it avoidable? What happened with the silver tongue, the verve, the Lothario approach......?
Fox----that sucks. Your dining plan alone made it worth the trip.
(Gonz-don't even think of sending us to Paula's)

Like you, I often end up skiing Vail alone. The down side.....you're alone....the up side.....Vail Mtn. Go skiing !

I'll bet you all if there is a female poster here that recently stood somebody up-------She's sweating bullets now !

Imagine my suprise when I called the room number I had been given to call Fox at, and a WOMAN answered!

She was quite taken aback when at 6:30 in the morning she was being asked if Fox was available! "No Fox here, I'm afraid", she said... "Too bad, I thought..." I thought Fox had outdone himself on his first night in Vail! Turns out the front desk had dialed the wrong room number...

When I finally woke up Fox, and got him into a coherent state, he found it had been snowing most of the night. He is planning on taking out his SP's today, to enjoy the entire 5-6" of new snow we got... Maybe he'll even take the free mtn tour, so he doesn't stray off any of the green and blue runs....

Meeting him at 4-4:15 at the Lions Den in Lionshead, if anybody is around. For, as he put it, " a beer, or five..."

Let me know if there are any Epic meeting plans at Vail for tomorrow (Tuesday). I read the snow report, and darn it I'm clearing my schedule.

I am planning to meet Fox on Friday to ski at Vail or Beaver Creek. PM me if anyone else is interested.

Well, he was smart like a FOX! We ended up getting over 12" of new on the upper mtn and in the back, so his SP's were the right call!

We did meet for beers, and it was closer to the 5 than the 1..... Then it was dinner at Chilly Willy's in Minturn, with numerous Kiwi Marg's.... Bob B and Tom B also showed to imbibe...

Since he is off the air during his visit, he is skiing Vail today with ssh, Copper tomorrow (3/23), and then he may try a few different areas the rest of the week... (Vail on Friday)

It broke his heart when I told him about the upcoming, "drink the bar dry" party at the Fabulous Sundance Saloon in Lionshead (Ski Magazine rated it - "The Last of the REAL Skier's DIVE BARS!"). It closes for good in about a week, just after he leaves. Maybe they won't have enough left to have the party if he has his way about it!

I have been reading some posts here since being introduced to Epic by some new friends at Big Sky. I felt I should post in my own defense. I did not stand anyone up and have groveled and begged for forgiveness for not being able to go. I can assure you I would much rather be skiing that working. However, it was unavoidable if I wanted to remain gainfully employed.

LOL---- NO Sweat, tnskier !

In that case I'll beep and wave as I go by next week !

The only serious note in this post-----Welcome to Epic !

Glad things are working out and Snopro the wife and I were in Vail for the first time the week before Xmas holidays started and stayed in lionshead. We absolutely love the Sundance and have photo's to prove it Great Blues band while we were there and a LOT o FUN. We closed the place down our last night there and "drowned our sorrows about the impending closing with one of the owners and all the tenders". What a great place

Just kiddin' obviously!

Seriously welcome to Epicski. Remember, a good man is hard to find, and the converse is also true! Fox is a keeper! Hope to see you at other Epic gatherings and events.

We missed you at Vail, tnskier, and did comment on the skiing you were missing. Honestly, it was Epic. And, it's still snowing up there (I won't get back up until Copper on Saturday).

(BTW, you did meet me in Montana; I was the one that came over to tell Fox we were leaving the night you two met!)

Of course, to make up for this, you need to bring the crew to the ESA in Snowbird!

Welcome to EpicSki. Don't be a stranger around here!

So, ssh/vsp, that there Sundance likely to stay open 'nother week? Us flatlanders may not be able to keep up on skis, but we gets frightful thirsty tryin'.

ssh - I do remember meeting you now. That was the night I learned not to drink with an Irishman. I am cursed when it comes to new snow so my loss is your gain. I hope you are all having a great time.

Ha! That was the night!

BTW, I was a witness to the boast and I tried to warn you. He was skiing with us at 8:45 the next morning. I heard some rumors about when you made it out the door that day...

Just returned from a few drinks with the Coach, and found the internet connection in the hotel.
It's been great to meet everyone so far , even if tnskier wasn't here

LM, your comment about breaking people's legs - I'm not sure if you're in a postion to talk about others' legs! Hope you and Mark get well soon, and the next time I'm in town, the fridge had better be stocked!

Well, it's Beaver Creek tomorrow, then Vail on Saturday, then back home on Monday, when I shall be back to my usual quiet posting self...

I'm at Copper tomorrow if anyone is around. I'll likely only be there for the morning, but if you're there, look for me at the OHG line-up a bit before 9am outside Jack's.

Lions Den is lots of fun, if you can get seats on the padded section of the terrace next to the outdoor bar.

The overflow from the bar keeps you warm there and you can really enjoy the spectacle of the mountain changing colors in the sunset.

Plus there are usually plenty of those well bred Vail women to entertain the eye (thinking of Fox here).
