Can anyone give some recommendations on where to eat while in Lake Louise and Banff? And Golden for that matter. I know that Banff has a lotta restaurants to pick and choose from.

Thyphoon, cafe soliel, Classicos, Ticino's, the Post, Coyotes, Buffalo Mountain, Sukiyaki House, the Maple Leaf. How long ya got. That should get you started.

A couple that I like are Balkan Restaurant in banff, good european food there, Athena Pizza, good greek pizza, and tony roma's famous for ribs, really good food there (i really liked it). I don't remember others right now.

I can tell you one place I've been to several times though it's in Canmore, not in banff. It's called the Drake Inn. Cheap, nice atmosphere inside and they've got some of the best wings, nacho platters and burgers I've ever had.

No, not the Balkan Restaurant. Much better meditteranean cuisine to be found in Calgary.

Take it from somebody who comes from the Balkans

I'm from the balkans too. I liked the souvlaki I had over there once. O well, that's just me. I might be wrong I guess.

While on mountain at Louise, eat at the Temple Lodge in the Larch area. There's a great full-service restaurant there that we stumbled upon while skiing.

In Golden: Kicking Horse Grill is my favorite. It's a log cabin with white tablecloths, candlelight and jazz playing in the background. Very high-end meals in a laid-back and relaxing atmosphere. Everyone I've ever talked to enjoyed their meal there. Also Cork (at the Copper Horse Lodge up at the mountain) is quite good. If you like sushi, Sushi Kuma (up at the mountain).

The Saltlick (I think that was the name) Steakhouse was pretty good. Also there was a really good Irish pub in the town of Banff as well but I am drawing a blank on the name.

Golden - A&W!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Old-skool grease 'n' root beer floats to power you. For something with more local "color" try Humpty's, especially for breakfast. Cheap family-style diner with monster portions. A trucker's favorite.

Banff - Melissa's. Best steak I've had in a long time. Later at night go to Barbary Coast for liquid nutrition. I hear they have good food, but I can't vouch for that.

Buffalo Mountain Lodge is the best place I have eaten in Banff.

Grizzly House in Banff. Cheese fondue for an appetizer, chinese fondue for dinner and chocolate fondue for dessert. I believe that the owners are swiss. I went with a swiss friend their once, he said the cheeses weren't quite right but otherwise it was pretty authentic. They even put Kirsch in the cheese fondue.

Grizzly House

I second the Grizzly House. If you like Game, you will LOVE this place. Everything from Elk to Kangaroo. And you can cook it over rocks instead oil. A Healthier alternative.
Coyote's is great for bkfst, lunch. Georgio's (I believe that's the name) has good Italian. I have heard rave reviews about Melissa's too, but didn't get there. Have a blast eating and skiing.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. We'll top it off with a soak at the Banff Cave & Basin hot springs and we'll be happy campers!!! I notice that they've been getting snow at LL and more on the way as well .... woot!

The restaurant (Sawyer's Nook) is lovely, certainly the best we had . We had an added bonus as for some reason the credit card was never debited for the meal.
We also enjoyed Melissa's (they also do great breakfasts).

you all suck if you want a great fast meal in Banff go to Barpa Bills two doors(south) down from the theatre.
it's really not a trip to banff without a barpa fix...

Barpa's is a great grab and take home. You can eat there but it is lacking on a few fronts, especially now that there's no hockey for Bill to keep the TV tuned to.

Actually Waxman you suck, so there.
