Finally got back on the slopes today

I broke my shoulder six weeks ago, and the doc reluctantly agreed to let me back on the slopes today.

Gave my new Volants a good workout at Whiteface for a solid three hours. Took me two or three runs to get back up to speed, because I was on new gear and just coming back from breaking two bones... definitely had to get my confidence back up.

Conditions were fantastic.. consistent packed powder on the whole mountain, with an occasional spot of hard pack. No ice to be seen. Temps in the high 20s. Bright shining sun. Man, when Whiteface is good it's great. Got back up to speed and left the vapor trails chasing my buddies. The Volant Machete Soul skis I got on clearance are very nice skis.. plowed through the chunky parts, and were very solid at full speed. 21m radius doesn't lend well to tight turns, obviously, but they were great. I'm very happy with them.

Around noon, one of our group sprained her knee so the great day got cut short... felt *wonderful* to get back out on the snow again.

Man, I love skiing. Finding that empty trail, pushing a little bit harder, watching the trees go by at 45 mph.. just you, the snow, and the speed. I love it.

Welcome back to the world of the bodily intact, Jonny, and if you take a hard fall at Iceface, better tuck that bad shoulder up and inside. Thanks for the report on the Volants, too.

You know, it was one of those days where I think even my XC touring skis would have ripped it up. I can sure pick em
