He may be a fine surgeon but there are many fine surgeons out there. When I was in Ft Lauderdale practicing for 8 years my old group read the MRIs for the Dolphins and Marlins and worked closely with their surgeons, one of whom repaired my ACL. Who's best? I don't know if anybody can say. Who should you avoid? That is more important and can be found out with a bit of research and gossip.
I think my surgeon did a good job, but since I still can't rip the bumps like Moseley I'm bit miffed.
It IS quite a statement, Jim. I did a fair amount of research after tearing my left ACL in Dec 1998, as I'd already had a primitive ACL recon in the right knee in 1985. I was prepared to travel for knee reconstruction. and I concluded that, lucky for me, the best was right here in my home town.
I'll bet there are other good ones, of course. Schutte's jr partner Larry Stayner has fixed a few friends' knees and done quite well, and Stayner has treated my two shoulder injuries extremely well.
it's not like I did some statistical analysis -- simply word of mouth through fellow athlete channels of communication. as you might know, people who stick with athletic activity after college and do so aggressively are often patients of orthopods, sorta goes with the territory. I have friends all around the country who are active still and who have suffered various orthopaedic injuries. I polled a good number of them and also asked some skiing friends who'd hurt their knees.
Schutte's excellence is tied largely to his frequent flyer location. Lots of hardcore outdoor jocks in Missoula. A good number of professional whitewater kayakers, lots of excellent skiers and bicyclists, ruggers and soccer players, and the various athletes at the Univ of MT. lots of these athletes get injured. most of 'em see Schutte. a few go to the other MDs in town but I've never known any athlete to be happy with any less than Schutte, and I've known quite a few unhappy with NOT choosing Schutte.
but hey it's all just my OPINION anyway.
PS if Schutte had fixed your knee, Jonny Mo would be sweatin' bullets!
