The wide tip helps with float on soft snow. The 177 was fun, but at 6'2" 275 I sank it like a sub in softer trees and crud. The 184 cruses with no chatter at speed. I bought it to be my avarage everyday ski and because I got it sickeningly cheap (only slightly more than my weight) with binding.
They make this ski in a 191 but IMO it would be unruly at my home mountain and in the thight trees I often ski.
