Mike de Santis, I don't know anyone betterI completely agree with what Scalce and skidiver stated about Precision Tuning Center (PTC). I personally don't know anyplace better. Mike was the manager and World Cup Race director for Volkl for years and his tuning knowledge and skills are impressive. I really appreciate his scientific approach. Unlike other tuners or shops, his specs and techniques are based on testing and real world application (not on old habits or myths. Ask him why he thinks using an iron on a regular basis to apply wax is a bad idea). Impressively, he is also a nice guy who is more than happy to share what he knows.
PTC (Summit Ski and Snowboard) has centers in Framingham and Danvers. To give you an idea how much I trust him, I drove 10 hours out of my way from NYC (5 hours to and from) to drop off my girlfriend Volkl's. He specializes in saving skis from previously bad tunes. He managed to save her skis that had a 10 degree base bevel. I had them "professional" tuned during the preseason from a supposedly, high-end ski shop on Long Island. After she got them back, they were better than new. Not the same, better. Next time, I'll use his mail order service instead of driving.
