Heavenly ski school and conditions question

Thread Starter
I will be in Heavenly next week.

1) I have always used the California lodge kids ski school. It has a nice
waiting area and the access to the mountain is great. This time i am staying near the Gondola and am wondering if i should put them in the ski school at the gondola. have any of you used this. Is there a lot of "walking to the lifts" involved when you go up the gondola. if that is the case - for little kids - it may be a little bit of a pain to walk around with their ski equipment.

2) has anybody skied heavenly this week. how are the conditions.

thx
Marty

The ski school meets at the top of the gondola. There is an outdoor pavillian and restaurant and the Big Easy beginner lift and Tamarack 6-pack lift are right there to your left as you decend the stairs from the gondola. The beginners area does not have through traffic so its a good quiet and safe place. The area under Tamarack lift is usually set up as a park, but you can access the entire mountain, both California and Nevada from the top.

There has been 4 to 8 inches each of the last three days and more is expected Saturday and Sunday. Snow conditions are excellent. At Heavenly during a storm, either the Nevada side will often be socked in with poor visibility, and the California side gets wind up high. The top of the gondola seems to be fairly protected spot from wind and fog. Weekday crowds next week will not be a problem, but expect this weekend to be very full. If you are staying near the Gondola, at least you won't have to fight for parking.
