Would you be interested in a racing forum here at EpicSki?

a) Please take a moment to vote yes or no and feel free to comment on the reasons for your vote.

b) Please PM or email your friends on EpicSki and ask them to vote here http://forums.epicski.com/showthread.php?t=24484 on this question.

I think we should create a new forum called "Racing News & Technique - World Cup, USSA, Masters, League, NASTAR" in General Forums section of this website. We could pull the racing threads from the General Ski Discussion and the Skiing Technique & Instruction areas into this new forum.

It should also be listed on the EpicSki home page as "Racing News & Technique" in the Forums Section after Skiing General to help attract more traffic to EpicSki when search engines index/rank the homepage.

Here are some reasons to create a racing forum:

1) Attracts more new users and converts some lurkers at EpicSki.

2) Attracts some current users who never/rarely look in the Skiing Technique & Training area. I think the average site user who sees CM, MA, Counter, Phantom Move, Morphology, etc. in a posting topic may be a little intimidated/think it is way over one's head/skip the topic altogether. This new area will allow folks who come for the Racing News to see some posts on Racing Technique that are more accessible/less intimidating and may encourage them to go to the Skiing Technique & Training area to check out other posts.

3) Combines the many very informative threads posted by racers, parents of racers and people interested in racing in general into one central location so that one does not have to go searching through multiple areas.

4) Increases posting traffic on EpicSki by current users who are passionate about/interested in racing in general.

5) Provides a central location to refer friends/colleagues who are interested in racing in general.

6) Provides a specific area for those who are looking for coaching/advice about racing as most of the threads in Skiing Technique & Training area are not directly related to racing technique.

If there is enough interest, we could ask AC or DChan

Thanks for your support.

Yes, Racing News. It shouldn't be in general skiing. Leave racing technique out of the title, that should stay in the coaching forum, some will always crossover anyway. A forum about world cup will increase interest. Good idea!

Seconded.

I voted "No", not because thread viewing is so fragmented already (it is), but because I believe that enthusiastic readers will do a search engine search on specific content "Bormio Rahlves Paerson Kostelic" and not on superbly generic terms like "Racing News". This doesn't benefit Epicski because dedicated reportage sites like www.skiracing.com will have far and away more content hits.

Like telerod15, I believe all technique should stay in the coaching forum and gear where it is.

Have the "Yes" voters been to visit our PG's efforts?

Comprex - I like EpicSki and have no desire to go another site. EpicSki is far more active 8,164 users vs. 131 users and the other site that you mentioned seems pretty inactive - some sections have no activity in the last 3 months and other sections have only a few posts/month. While the Breaking News - Competition section had some interesting articles, the Technique section seemed very lacking.

Overall, EpicSki seems to be a far superior/higher quality site.

I am one who believes that specialization and focus actually help the site overall. I usually start at the forums home page and check on new posts in every subarea. But, it's nice to stick with a particular area and get that focus as a result before moving elsewhere.

Not enough going on there, to my mind, comprex. And just a bit too much bias in some of the reporting, too...

Maybe it would be good to read a different "perspective"

This pretty much sums up my thoughts on this issue.

Everything, including EpicSki, can be improved upon, but I think the current forum "mix" is very good. I think this is supported by the fact that all of the forums seem to get a lot of attention in terms of posts and views. You can only isolate topics so much, and where do you stop? You could come with an unlimited amount of possibilities.

Are there really some that fit into this category? If so, they're missing one of the best parts of this site, IMO. It has something for everybody, students and instructors alike.

Coach13 - I agree with you that people are missing one of the best parts of this site if they never/rarely look in the Skiing Technique & Training area.

However, I think the average site user who sees CM, MA, Counter, Phantom Move, Morphology, etc. in a posting topic may be a little intimidated/think it is way over one's head/skip the topic altogether.

In fact, this is one of the reasons why I think a Racing News & Technique area will be beneficial for EpicSki. This area will allow folks who come for the Racing News to see some posts on Racing Technique that are more accessible/less intimidating and may encourage them to go to the Skiing Technique & Training area to check out other posts.

i vote yes just because i want one

yes

RACERS might work better than RACING, though, as racing (world cup, olympics...) has a broader appeal and seems covered by GENERAL SKI.

a RACERS "room" would be more specific to all that goes into bashing gates. and though the low voter turnout thus far might indicate a larger indifference (or not) on the forum, a RACERS forum might in fact draw some input that might not otherwise find its way to a more general ski forum.

i know i'd eavesdrop. every time i go over or ski by a race course i have a hard time removing my eyes from the gates and the skiers moving through them. the few times i've actually run a course myself have provided some of the most grin-inducing turns i've made (no matter how sloppy they were).

i'm interested.

I don't want to vote "Yes" or "No". Wish you had included "Indifferent" in your poll.
