If nobody else shares my opinion, I think I can live with that.
Skidoc: Your personal experience on the skis and conclusions are valid. I'm not disputing that.

Only, given my experience on the skis - mind blowing performance - combined with the fact that virtually all B:5's and M:11's produced by Atomic are sold-out in Feb., leads me to question whether Metrons will "fail on a broad scale".

I may be a level 9 skier (no racing experience - but technically solid), therefore I can't say how intermediate skiers would fare of these skis.

Regardless, somebody has been buying a passel of Metrons. If anyone knows where B:5's can still be gotten, please let me know.

I would say that most skis that were ordered by stores are sold out but I wouldn't agree with the all skis produced statement.

Most shops that I have been into late last year and early this season did not order that many B5s and XIs because they were not sure how well they would sell and also because of the price tag.

I think that is more of a reason why you cannot find that many.

I always keep a lookout on the mountain and I do not see a large amount of B5's or XI's skiing on by.

Bindings taken care of....Neox 412's on the way. It'll be my first time not in a Salomon in 15+ years...should be interesting.

I like the Neox bindings.

I haven't had an issue yet.

Scalce,

I spoke with Atomic directly yesterday.

No B5's available in a 162 or 172cm either this year's or next.

I wanted to buy 3 pair. No one here in Seattle has any.

Maybe what Strato meant is that most shops are sold out & can't get anymore until a shipment of 05-06 comes from Austria.

maybe a month or so.

I know where there are a pair of B5's in a 172, PM me if interested.

Atomicman: You appear to an "insider". How much difference do you expect between the '05 and '06 B:5 versions.

Would it be worthwhile to wait for the new crop (especially since the '05 versions are virtually gone). If so, how soon do you think one could access the '06 stock (172 cm)?

P.S. You're correct about my previous comments. I've tried every Atomic store in Washington, and foggedaboudit. Nothing! Atomic must be verrrry happy.

What I have heard is New Graphics and a different elastomer being used in the construction. Lightening of the Neox binding. I always like to be on the latest, greatest so I may wait for next years to become available.

Atomicman: If you find any sources for the 2006 Metron B:5's, I'd be grateful for any info on how to access them. Thanks!

Also, feel free to PM me, if you wish (your box is full).

Phil,
Nice that you can swap. Too bad that other manufacturers don't offer the same guarantee. For me I tend to get skis that are too long and/or too stiff for my size. I'm 140 lbs and tend to fall for the hype and end up getting more ski than I can handle. I was careful to demo this time and got the XI instead of the top of line B5.

The swap was a plus, it wasn't an "end all" for me if they didn't. I made the wrong choice and I was ready to live with it. Worse case, my son would have taken the 162's next year adn I would have shopped for another ski for me.

Are you serious?

Even though I like my XI's, I still think I liked my old R:11s better.

Of course I am not the most skilled driver.

Anybody want to buy my XI's so I can buy next year's skis?

How long and how much?

They are 162s but I am not sure how much.

I need to find a replacement ski first.

Phil: I'm interested in your experience of 172's vs 162's. I wanted to demo both, but could only acquire the 172's - which I totally loved. (I'm 204 lbs, level 9 skier and prefer medium arcs).

I don't like skittery skis and I'm not looking to run the zipper line (tight moguls). Therefore, I'm leaning towards just getting the 172's. I can't imagine the 162's delivering more.

I am 5'11" 200lb. I had no issues with the M:IX's in a 171 in the bumps. I will post a review either from JH if I have net access or when I get back. In hind sight, I do not know why I got the 162's, I guess I over thought the buying process.
Phil, maybe you thought they were more like the B5. I think you would like the B5 in 162cm. Have a good time in JH. Try not to think of me, I don't want you falling on a big mountain, and scratching that new Fuse.
