What's the PSIA? Don't mean to be a pain in the ass, but I'm kind of clueless when it comes to technical aspects of skiing.
An additional note....Instructor levels are usually designated with roman numerals, ex; LEVEL I, LEVEL II, LEVEL III. Student abilities are labeled via digits 1-9. (obviously, this does not happen on discussion forums).
A Level III instructor will have the ability to ski @ the level 9 stage.....and in addition.... be able to teach a student through that level. So to address this question..... the main difference is the ability to teach/coach...appropriately.....following a standard.
After level 9, specific disciplines will come into play. This starts to stretch the parameters of PSIA and gets more into coaching of a particular skill. For example racing, mogul competion, free style, etc.
