Vail Update?

We are scheduled to do a Vail trip in about 2 weeks - Feb 24-27. How are the conditions at this point? Vail.com shows a mid mountain packed base of 45" but not much new snow lately.

Just thinking about changing/cancelling the trip. Being from Utah and with the great snow this year it is a little hard to make the trip unless it is going to be great.

If you want to get out of Utah and, for some strange reason, are looking at Colorado you might think about Telluride or Crested Butte. The southwestern part of the state has been doing pretty well. That is, of course, if you can easily change your reservation. The snow's been a tad thin lately and the forecast is for snow levels up to 8,500 feet this weekend. The long range forecast is also favoring the southwest.

Keep and eye here:

Of course, it all depends on what you think makes for a great vacation.

I agree with dallen, SW Colorados having a good year. Why even make reservations, just pack up and go where ever has the best conditions.

I skied at Aspen Highlands/Snowmass from 1/30 through 2/4 and conditions were good - especially at Snowmass. I was a little concerned, but my skis survived without a scratch. There may be a few extreme runs that require more snow than they had. However, Snowmass has received 11 inches since I left.

The conditions currently in Vail aren't bad. It is getting firm and fast, with the Back Bowls beginning to see the standard "freeze/ thaw" cycles. Despite the snow we received this week, we are still way below our normal snowfall totals for the season.
If you are expecting phenom conditions, unless we get some significant amount of snow in the next 2 weeks, I would suggest staying home (or traveling WEST to Tahoe).

The Mrs. and I are heading to Vail on the 19th. Nothing personal VSP, but I like Mr. Vertical's post a heck of a lot more. Let it snow!!
