I realize this is an old thread, but I just have to address some of this CRAP.
- If a racer is in scored USSA races, he can't use GS skis on an SL course. There is a minimum turn radius for GS depending on the age of the racer. See Alpine Eqt. rules
- The faster the race, the longer the course, the greater the competition, the more you will need a speed suit. That being said, at the age we're talking about, conformity with what the other racers are sporting is extremely important to the racer's self-confidence.
- As to boots. All I can say as a mother of a former racer is that when I finally broke down and let my daughter get plug (racer) boots and she worked to get them ground to her foot, etc., all the coaches told her that her racing had ratcheted up significantly. Yes, her feet are cold most of the time when mine are not, but when I think of all the money we spent on GETTING TO RACES and lodging and airfares over the years, the simple purchase of the right boots would have done more good than those races at say, Mammoth (where they cancel half the runs due to weather issues.) And racers don't want FLEXIBLE boots!!! Flexible boots are perfect for off piste, but on the course, you want something that immediately notifies the racers of course conditions AND sends the racer's leg commands to the skis. You don't want mushy boots for racing.
My daughter raced for 11 years, into college. She now is an Alpine Race Coach. She's more qualified than I am to answer this, and I think some others on the board are more qualified than me as well, but I think I know a lot after all this time and you CLEARLY DON'T HAVE A CLUE.
first of all i realized this was 2005 after i posted my bad
second of all i didnt say mush boots i said boots you CAN FLEX not mushy boots if you can flex them you cant get pressure to the front of your seets you end up leaning back NOT WHAT YOU WANT TO DO
this thread was HIGHSCHOOL racing not ussa
and also it is his FIRST YEAR IN HIGHSCHOOL HE IS 105lbs and most adult race boots if he has an adult size race boot are at least 110 flex a flex for someone 105lbs would be at the most eighty
also they are in WISCONSIN hills not that big.
so before you call it crap please learn how read and comprehend what you read before being as rude as possible. thank you.
p.s. anyone can race for eleven years and still not know what the they are talking about and that is your daughter NOT YOU. I could be related to einstein and not be smart.
