Metron B5/Apache Recon changes for 2006?

I was hoping to test these two in France in early Jan but had insufficient snow.

Next chance should be mid-March & then I hope to haggle an end of season deal.

However, I'm concerned that although I might get a better deal I don't want to miss out on any improvements that might be made to the respective 2006 models, ie any weight reduction on the B5. I'm not bothered about paint job changes etc.

Is anyone aware of any changes that would make it worthwhile waiting for the new models.

I thought I heard that the Recon may be getting the Marker integrated binding next year (or did that happen this year?)...anyhow, that's all I've heard...

The Recon is available with or without the integrated Marker.
I'd be surprised if any changes are made to the Recon since it's a first year model, but is essentially unchanged from the former XP.

I've heard that Atomic is tweaking the Metron line for next year, looking to reduce weight on the B5 for one. I believe I also read that they are coming out with a Neox Aluminum binding next year, also to decrease weight.

Metron B5 has a cosmetic change. NEOX binding will go to Jenny Craig.

I just skied the '06 B5 today, and if it has gone on a diet, I would hate to have carried around the '05 model! But, that isn't an issue when on the snow....

Betaracer: Just a new paint job on the B:5 for next year (and a lighter NEOX)? Nothing else?

The Noex binding did visit Jenny Craig. The new metals shave @ 1.25 lbs off the binding. The Metron line has some changes with materials and camber so the are skiing better than ever. Just ask some of the other companies that are copying the "metron" shapes. But it will be intresting to see how they work with out the Beta Profile.

I forgot to add that most people who test the ski use the Noex + demo binding which is has extra steel for the quick adjustment. Those bindings do not reflect the new 06 Neox ALU.

Thanks for the feedback. Looking forward to testing the B5 in March, which will probably be the 05 model, but if I'm happy I'll go for the 06 model for a bit less weight & the new tip width etc.

Are you sure the 06 bindings are 1.25 lbs lighter. Have you seen a written spec sheet, or weighed it, or is this heresay. I am not challenging you, I want to know for a fact. If they are that much lighter, I am getting a pair for My M10s. gordo

Skied on a pair of 06' B:5s, and held them back to back with the 05' B:5s in the store and I would swear they are lighter.

I did not have a scale, so I can't scientifically verify it. Fantastic ski though.

Gordo: Buy them! They are unquestionably lighter. Just got the '06 B:5's with the '06 Neox. A noticeable difference in weight from the '05, all due to the bindings.
