New '05/06 Skis Advertised in Australia

Thread Starter
It looks like the new '05/06 line-ups are being advertised in Australia (since they're heading into their new season in a few months and we're ending ours?).

Check out: http://www.bumps.com.au/SKIS/Volkl_05/SKESKVO.htm

That's Volkl's new line-up and it clearly shows the new Allstar replacing the 6 Star. I'm not sure about the other brands, but they may be the new stuff also.

looks like it will compete with the metron series in terms of versitality

theyre already more versitile...i dont the the metron so thats my opinion

I guess the new supersport series is still pretty much the same.

Here is a link with information about Volkl freeskiing series for next year, just scroll down to the middle of the page.

I'm wondering what the new 724 series will look like?
looks like they axed it and made it into the unlimited series
post #6 of 20
I have a feeling that this is incomplete series, there got to be more models, specially 724 Pro.

05-06 Volkl's

The 7 24 series will be replaced by the "Unlimited" series.

The Unlimited AC4 is a replacement for the AX4/G4. Skied it in a 184 and it skis very nice.

The 177 Unlimited AC3 skis "snappier/livelier" than the PRO or the EXP.

The 184 Mantra (the replacement for the Explosiv) skied great in chalky snow & crud. It still sounds like an Explosiv when they are clicked together, but turns much quicker than the Explosiv.

The Allstar has a softer, rounder/deeper-flexing tail than the 6 Star.

Wood sidewalls are gone from the Gotama.

I'll post reviews when I get more time.

Out of all of them, my favorite thus far is the 184 Mantra.

HarkinBanks,
you got any info on the new race tiger (race stock)? I know that they totally redesigned the topsheet, but did they change anything else? Also, does any one have info on the diablos for next year?

Been looking forward to the Mantra, but have not seen them. Your descriptions sounds like you have seen, or perhaps skied them??? Where, When? More please. That's worse than Phil dropping the announcement in mid-sentence!

Skied them last week in Utah. Sorry for leaving you hanging - not what I ment to do.:

The Mantra is dark grey-ish in color, has a shiny topskin with 1/32" lines running perpandicular to the running length of the ski. One of the lift operators said "Dude, there's lines on your skis."

Anyway, not to hijack this thread, I thought that the 184 might be too short, but it turned out to be the right size. I think that the 191 would be too big for everyday skiing for me. It skied really well in every condition it took it in - crud, cut up snow, chalky snow, groomers, etc. I liked having the feeling of a big, long radius ski to go fast. Again, it skied like the Explosiv, but with much quicker turn initiation. But don't read "hooky" into that. They still want to run big and fast. I also liked the sound of them - they still sound like Explosiv's. The tail is a little more turned up than this year's Explosiv, but nowhere near the Gotama's.

I did not get a chance to ski them in pow - none to be had. Hopefully in a couple of weeks - when it snows again.

Although I picked up the Race Tiger, I did not ski it. As soon as I get more on it, I'll post.

You're right. This deserves its own thread. I had no idea these were even in the US to see, let alone demo.

Here is a Russian link that has all VOLKL 05/06 models. You need to click on the link on the right.

I know someone whose p60 sl's delaminated and were replaced with the race tigers.
The ones he had were yellow, not green like in the picture.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that the Race Tiger is the replacement for the "race carver" skis, not the World Cup/Race Stock P60s.

If I get the Volkl All STars will I automatically become an All Star? I have been looking for a ski like that!

No, but they will make you a better skier.

I noticed the AC4 was missing from that link in the first post.

I skied it in 170cm on Saturday and liked it. But I think the AC3 is still a better everyday day here in the East. They were the skis that made me giggle when I demoed them. Fun rides.

All 05/06 Volkl "race skis," whether they are race stocks or race carvers, are Race Tigers...

They had the Race Stock Racetiger GS at both the Copper and Snowbasin trade demos that I attended.

I've noticed they've brought the bikes over, is Scott-USA going to market a ski line in the US for 2006?
