I am not quite sure which race events they accuracy have in Austria, but starting from the top there is the European cup, University-race, Citizen race (FRA, ITA, AUT), and some local events also. But the is off course large differences on the difficulties of the gates courses encountered at the different events.
Beta, Thanks for the advice with the "skin suit", I was defiantly not going to buy that as the first and most necessary equipment, but now I know where to get it when times comes. Next time I come to Flachau I will checkout Schneider Hosen in Altenmarkt and look on some of the Austrian "Power suits". I will use your advice about doing GS turns on the groomed, one thing that I am already practicing.
About the Looks when skiing I was more concerned about getting beaten up when hitting gates wrong. One of my friends catched a gate and turned around and hit his back badly, that was one of the reasons to as about necessary protection gear.
Regarding pole length I will go for a 130 cm and maybe cut 1-2 cm off, I am 182 cm so from your advice about cutting instead of exstending it will be the 130 cm.
