Of the choices listed, which magazine is your favorite? Disclaimer: online-only publications are not included on this poll.

Search on this, wbroun. You'll find lots of polls on this topic.:

Here's just one of them.

A good thread. FYI: I did indeed search under "ski magazines" and "magazines" on the thread titles before beginning this thread and I found no comparable threads and no polls. I would have been glad to see someone else's thread on the same subject, but I saw no polls covering such a long list of magazines. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Nah, it just means nobody thought to do a poll.

Bit surprised to see Powder doing well in poll. It always just seemed like a bunch of pictures of people skiing off cornices. OTOH, surprised by the poor showing of Ski Racing. Serious magazine. Personally glad to see the more cosmopolitan Ski Press besting Ski by a few percentage points.

Ski Press. It's free, yet no more biased than the majors to advertisers. Ski Canada has the best ski testing, Ski Racing the best cover shots (yeah, no cornices). :

Powder was starting to struggle a bit the last couple years but has come back strong this year with a great mag. The photography is the best I've seen in all the mags I've read and with the large format its a visual feast.

There are other good publications out there if you are more concerned with info on skis, equipment and major resorts. But nothing gets me stoked for the upcoming season like the first issue of Powder in my mailbox. The writing reaches right down to the core of why I enjoy the sport in a way that other mags don't. Although now that writers like Steve Casimoro and Rob Story are writing freelance rather than solely for Powder, other mags are getting better.

Interesting points, and by the way this poll is shaping up, many agree with you! Good for Powder! I still find it hard to get excited by pictures, but maybe I'm just weird visually re: skiing -- I find Warren Miller films terribly flavorless, for instance, like eating ice cubes for days. Good soporifics, tho. I need to take another look at Powder, I guess.

Read it next time. They have the best writing as well as the best photos. I prefer Couloir though.

Some interesting logic here.

SBC Skier hands down.

BTW, Freeze is dead.

Considering the print mags:
Ski Canada and Skipressworld in English
probably Sciare (Italy) overall
and the Czech SNOW since it´s the mag which pays for the articles I regularly supply

The writing in Powder is excellent but the subject matter in Couloir is of greater interest to me.

i too find warren miller films to be about as bland as ice cubes, but what powder compiles is more in line with a tgr or msp film - it's relatively core in content, and as stated, if you actually read the articles, there is sooo much soul in this rag. i think powder does the best job of conveying the feelings that we have deep down inside us about skiing the best.

in comparison i find the "big" mags like skiing and ski to have something lodged way too far up you know where to correctly convey what's great about skiing. but then again, they are intended to get people to spend big money on ski trips, not to get the '93 subaru wagon driving duct taped jacket loc stoked for the season.

SKIER is my favorite by far, except I wish they'd use a bigger font size. Never heard of DARK SUMMER but it sounds interesting.

Ski Presse has the least editorial integrity of any of the mags in the poll. Too much blending of ads and edit to make it viable or valuable. Being free, with random ski shop/area distribution, further diminishes its value and credibility. If you don't pay for something, it has no value. Cheesy Canadian art direction doesn't help either.

Ski Racing produces an outstanding editorial product. Too bad that it's name makes it's market so narrow. There's tons of info in there that is appealing to non-racing, high end skiers who want the insider's take on gear, fitness, training, tuning, etc. If you're a hard core skier, but not part of the racing community, you'll never see this mag. Too bad. Small circulation (regardless of the quality of the audience) will keep it a third level ad buy for the ski companies and resorts, and off the national advertiser's radar except for those with USST tie ins.

Ski and Skiing serve up flavorless, generic gruel for the skiing masses. Someone has to do it.

Powder has returned from the dead. Great job this year. It is clearly the most worthwhile pub of the bunch. Need to be mindful that the soul of skiing is inclusive not exclusive.

Voted for "Ski". Grew up reading it, it was always around the house. Haven't read a ski rag in years! Guess I have to change that!
I voted for Ski as well. I just got an issue today!

If it's useful reviews you're looking for then all the print pubs suck. They never met a ski they couldn't say something good about, and most have crazy classification systems that are either misleading or meaningless. If you're just interested in reading about some fantasy heliski trip you'll never get to take, then any will do.
