Jackson Hole Lodging

Any suggestions for lodging in Jackson Hole? Would you stay in town or at the resort?

Two guys so a condo is a little overkill. We like to get up, ski all day, have a few drinks, hot tub, dinner, crash, repeat.

We don't need anything fancy but we would like to not have a car. It seems like half of the locations in town are 6-8 blocks away from town square. I public transportation okay?

Any advice would help.

Thanks.

In town. You'll be closer to the bars and restaurants. Just make sure the lodging is at or near a shuttle bus stop and you won't need a car. I've been visiting JH for the last five years and have never rented a car. I've stayed at the Elk Country, 49er and Cowboy Village and would recommend all three. They're also close enough to walk to most anywhere.

Cheers,
dan

I would stay in town and us the transit system. In town I believe it is free but the 20 min. ride out to the slopes I think costs 3 bucks???? Other than the "Moose" not much else is happening slope side after 8:00 pm. Most the night action is there. In town has a better selection of food and drink and is more competitively priced.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the advice.

Found Barking Bear a couple of weeks ago by chance and now I'm here everyday.

Check out the Wagon Wheel Inn in Jackson. A few blocks (walking distance) to town and has a restaurant on site for breakfast. Free shuttle to JH as well. Great price for decent lodging.

Best Kept Secret

I don't know what your budget is, but the best kept secret in town is
THE PARKWAY INN, 3 blocks from the Town Square (it's a few steps away from the Rusty Parrott).

I've stayed there several times. Winter rates are about $145 for a double and that includes a nice continental breakfast. They also offer ski packages with lift tickets included in the price.

It's a small place. Cozy. Has a gym, lap pool! (which even the fancy places don't have), sauna, jacuzzi., cable TV. Free internet use on the computer in the lobby. Staff is friendly.

And, -- the shuttle bus to the mountain stops right outside the door.

Oops -- I think Powerdigger is right. It costs a few bucks for the shuttle bus . .or maybe it's a voluntary "tip." I can't remember at the moment.

Gotta line up opposite Powdigger this time. I like to roll out of bed, slug down some coffee and some breakfast and be on the slopes. I'd go for something slopeside at Teton Village. If you are on a budget, hit the Hostel X as Gonzo suggests. If you are price insensitive & want the hot tub & nice bar downstairs, hit 4 Seasons or Snake River Lodge (4-5 Diamond type places). Other stuff to be found in-between in terms of price. I believe there are some fairly cheap condos too (outside of peak weeks). Enough overpriced, but good food to be had in the Village without even hitting town. Anything in the Village is walking distance to the Moose too...

I like the village better, but I usually only go for a couple of day at a time. If you want first tram on a powder day you have to be there EARLY.

I always stay in town. Check out the Antler Inn...it's owned or managed by the same company as the 49er Suites and Cowboy Village. You can look at all 3 properties with virtual webcams on the same website. Two people can stay at the Antler for $100 a night. It's is (2) blocks to the Town Sq and 20 *FEET* to the bus stop that takes you to the Village. All (3) places have hot-tubs as well.

Also, check out the Lodge at Jackson Hole which is a Best Western property. VERY NICE and only about $135 a night with breakfast, jacuzzi and indoor/outdoor pool, restaurant on the property. We're staying there in February. We got a great package deal which is on the website....5 nights lodging (w/ breakfasts), airport shuttles, shuttles to the mountain, 3 days at JH and 1 day at Targhee w/ transportation to Targhee as well....all for $950 for (2) people. I priced it out separaetly and it would have been about $1300.

Snow King

I stayed at Snow King once - just on the edge of town. Very happy. Shuttle service to town & the mountain very convenient (you can wait in the lobby & not get cold!). Staff was friendly and helpful. Heated outdoor pool & hottubs. Bar in the hotel. Restaurant too, if you are too tired to hit the town for dinner.

Check out their website or call them for packages - you can get a package with breakfast (very convenient); and you can get packages to ski JH, Grand Targhee, and/or Snow King (we did JH & GT & never had a chance to ski at Snow King itself). I think Snow King has night skiing, and, I think you may be able to ski at night cheap (maybe free some nights?) if you are a hotel guest. They shuttled us to/from airport for free, and I think they gave us free passes for the town bus to JH as well.

I liked the look of all 3 properties. The deal sound good. I think they will fit in with budget & plans.

We're planning 4 days at JH & 1 at Targhee unless someone has other ideas.

When if Feb are you going? We're 22nd-27th.
I'll be at JH Feb 5-9....

I'll be in Steamboat while you're at JH......

This is the best advice on this thread if you want good, clean, basic accommodations at a value. Don't stay in the village, it's a rip-off and there's nothing to do.
You know Spindrift has a point. You will spend 8-10 hours a day on or around the slopes.

Then 4-6 eating and drinking. Next time I go I will stay in the village and take the bus to go into town. Better to take a drunken ride home at night sleep in and roll out on to the slopes. I hate the ride into JH in the morning after waking up an 1.5 hr earlier than everyone else.

I feel like I should be paying someone for all the great advice!

Bob, let me know if you're around President's Week. I buy you a beer, or two.
Best western also runs the Inn at Jackson Hole which is up in the Village (not in the Town of Jackson). They run the double diamond package (check the website) wich includes lift ticket, a very good breakfast, a day at Targhee (must go) and it is ski in/out. The rooms are simple but clean. I got one with fireplace and a kitchenete but besides using the fridge we never cooked there. We took the local bus every night to go to town. When we were too tired we went to the Mangy Moose or to the Japanese restaurant on the building. You should definetley stay there. And the best of all, if there is a big dump, you are just there!

cheap condos

Another option would be to do small condo at the village, more expensive than the Hostel but with a kitchen you could save money on food. The cheapest but still fine would be a 1BR Tensleep or Gros Ventre units.

If you book thru the resort you get to use the pool and hot tub across the street. Also a complex called Sleeping Indian has small studios with a murphy bed(the ones that fold out of the wall) and sofabed and kitchen.

In town fro cheap eats Billy's Burgers are not to be missed. To be honest I moved from JH a few years ago, after 17 years, so I hope it's still there.

Bottom line I am sure you will have a great time.

SnowKing resort

Try calling Snow King (the in-town mtn where you may be able to get in a couple of hours on your arrival day).

We did their room & lift tix package last yr & it was probably the best value in JH. Free shuttle comes by about 8:30 a.m. like clock- work. Big, plentiful, breakfast buffet daily, included; wine & appetizers included one night; 6 of 7 day lift tix;very comfortable room with balcony, medium walk to Snake River Brewery & town square, all under $800 each including tax. Ticket also offered a shuttle to Targee included.

Check em out on-line.
