What Brand Of Skis Popular At Your Area?

I mainly ski Taos Ski Valley. What you notice at Taos is the plethora of Salomons, it is not uncommon to see 30-40% of skiers on Pocket Rockets on a powder day, the 1080 is apoular evryday ski. Stockli has a devoted following, although in numbers Stockli would be behind Atomic, Vokl K2 and Rossi. The rap I've heard from Southern Rockies skiers(Taos, Crested Butte, Silverton) is that Rossis break too easily for the often bony, rocky terrain here.

Just my visual guess of rankings:

1 Salomon
2 Atomic
3 K2
4 Vokl
5 Dynastar
6 Stockli
7 Rossignol
8 Fischer

If I had the proverbial $1 for every pair of Salomons I saw at Alpine Meadows/Heavenly, I'd never have to pay for a lift ticket again...Tons of PRs, a lot of Crossmax. K2 or Atomic probably 2nd...it's close...

At Belleayre Mountain, NY. My guess is ...
1. K2

3. Atomic
4. Head

You think the K2's beat out Dynastar and Atomic at Belleayre?

I think I see more Atomics then others, with Dynastars right after.

Would you happen to be in the mug club?

I ski MadRiver and they have a bizarre assortment of boards. What you see the most however is Dynastars, en masse......

No particular brand, but mostly long, straight, and beat up.

Yep, the ski choices there seem to be as eclectic as the people who ski them. Dynastar was the first brand that came to mind when I thought of MRG too.

Hunter has become an Atomic Mountain.

1. Volkl, Fischer
2. Salomon
If you hop on a chair with a random person, it's probably an 85% chance they have one of those 3.

Oddly, almost no Atomic. Rossi's are scarce too, which is wierd.

Summit County and Pocket Rockets seem to go hand in hand..probably because all the Breeze shops demo them
post #11 of 28
1.Atomic,Volkl
2 K2
3.Dynastar
4 Fischer/ Heads
Here at Cannon this seems to be the status quo. So far this year anything that will handle Ice with some snow:

Rock skis until A-basin gets at least 3 more feet.

At Nashoba Valley it is mostly Rossi - Cut. Usually with a set of numbers scrawled on the top with a Sharpie.

Alta, off the top of my head;

Atomic, all orange ones (no yellows, reds or green checkered), Metrons creeping in.
Volkl- G3,4 gotama, explosive, etc.
Dynastar. Bigs & biggers,
Salomon; PR's and scream hots and hotters
Fisher;big stix
K2 ak launchers, apaches showing up.
Rossis, b2&3
and all of the above mounted tele + Voile's, K2 stinx, etc.

Yeah, you know what, I think you're right about the K2's -- but I think most of the rentals are Dynastar Agyls, if memory serves? Rentals probably win out at any mt, doncha think? But I know Atomic is big at Belleayre, but they're big almost everywhere in the east, ya think?

That is all weird, and cool. Volkl must be coming on strong, because they always seem more admired than purchased by Joe Blow Cheapstix.

Sounds familiar, only some are Elans...all have the number on top.

There's 2 pair of Rossi's that are not Cuts...these belong to instructors
2 pair of Volkl's that belong to instructors
a couple instructors on Atomics
a couple on Fischer
a couple on Solomon...

most others on the hill have rentals or former rentals in their "quiver"

The rentals are in fact Dynastar's. However, I don't know if rental ski's should be counted in this poll.......

Def. on the Atomic's big everywhere in the east.

How often do you hit Belleayre? Tomorrow will be my 15th day this year....13th at Belleayre.

whtmt

Here in central New Hampshire we tend to see K2, Dynastar, Atomic, Rossi, and some Volkl for the ice.

We've sadly not been able to get there even once this season -- too busy with work, commited elsewhere, and/or meager conditions when not -- but the next Friday (and I emphasize DAY) it's not raining in the Catskills, we'll be there. It's our favorite mt by far (and so blessedly empty midweek). Thank god for New York's taxpayers, subsidizing our hobby! Dont know about the mug club?

skiing around Europe it is amazing how nationalistic they are: Hardly a Rossi or Dynastar outside of France, lots of Fischers and even some Kneissls in Austria. In France the Atomics are disguised as Dynamics. Head may well be number one overall
post #23 of 28
Volkl
K2
Atomic
Dynastar
Rossi

But it varies from hill to hill in the midwest. Salomons were everywhere a few years ago and now are less common. Where recent European immigrants ski there are more Heads, Fischers, Volkls, and Atomics.

Personally,

Volkl,
Atomic
Dynastar

Just got back from a week at Alta, ditto on the B3's, Apaches and the occasional Gotama. Saw a few Seth Pistols as well.

Also saw a lot of Pocket Rockets, but mostly on out of state visitors who did not appear to be mainly powder skiiers. On the weird side, saw some pockets and other fats mounted for tele.

Rode up on the lift with guy the who manages the mid-mountain demo centers, he was on atomic carve mid fats and pushing these. This may explain why Atomics appear frequently, or just because they make good skis.

On the locals saw a lot of older volant chubbs and telemark skis (I seem to recall black diamonds here).

Finally, in the most exotic category, rode on the lift with a couple of young powder hounds with volant spatulas and line motherships.

1. Fischer RC4 series
2. Atomic C series
3. Salomon Verse

Volkls have been making a comeback in a big way around here (WI), thanks to a new race shop which carries only Volkl and Blizzard. Those yellow P60s are everywhere, but not in the mass quantities that the three above are seen in.

7 Springs , PA

ATOMIC, its all I see, and all I ride.

Rossi and salomon behind atomic, head next.
The Gurals here in the MidWest seem to like Atomic and Fischer racing skis; followed by Volkl. Otherwise it is all over the place. And snowboards are at least as numerous, if not easily in the majority.
Where I ski, Salomon rentals are the most popular by far.
