Leki pole guards

Ok this is a little obscure, but I was hoping maybe someone here might be able to help out. I bought a pair of Leki pole guards, the half-wrap kind that doesn't screw into the grip but rather just attaches to the pole just below the handle.

It comes in two pieces, the first being the guard (which fits up against the pole shaft) and the second being a half-moon piece that sits on the other side of the pole shaft. You're supposed to put the supplied screws through the two pieces (one on each side) and tighten them around the pole by using the supplied nut. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be an easy way to hold the nut in place so you can turn the screw, because there's very little room between the nut and the plastic of the guard. I've tried a very small needlenose pliers but I can't get a good grip on it.

If anyone here knows what the heck I'm talking about and can give some advice, it'd be really cool. I can probably take a digital pic if someone wants to see what I mean.

Thanks!

Jamming a flat head screwdriver between the nut and the plastic usually does the trick. Forget about trying to grab the nut.

I've shattered about 5 of those pole guards in the last few years- your money would be better spent on a nice pair of armored racing gloves. They're warmer than most gloves out there to boot.
