As (another) 210lb guy with a pair of 185 PR's, I too call BS. Most dangerous part is using Salomon bindings. Replace those with something with a real heel and you are golden. Of course, I too could use a Salomon binder if I put a 914 or 916 on them.
Anyways, what do you consider "moderate" speed? I was on my pair the other day cruising at ~40mph on frozen rain. Felt kinda scary. If that is "moderate" to you, then yes, they suck. Otherwise, I'll continue to ski them at GS speeds on hardpack and not feel as if I'm "severely limiting" myself.
