If there is a ski you want, buy it. People are always waiting for the Volkl G3 to get cheap. Guess what, it's not going to happen. If it does, it will be the last pair in the biggest size. Get the gear you want, in the size you want, pay what you have to, it is worth it. Unless of course, $80-$100 is worth getting the third choice ski, or the wrong size.
I am constantly amazed by people pulling up to the shop in brand new SUVs haggling about about the price of the 10 EX. Gimmeie a break, you are the people who pay full price! You can afford it. If you can afford that big dollar, gas guzzling, expensive upkeep car you don't really need living in SoCal, you can afford to get the ski you want now. "You should talk, you get cheap if not free skis!" Yea, and I make under $25,000 a year, and live in a resort town.
There are also the people who come in wearing the latest Bogner/Nils/Metropolis/foofywhatever outfit who can't belive how expensive those new skis/boots are.
Sorry if I offended anyone here. Yes, skiing is a very overpriced sport, but we asked for it. Nobody goes to the small hill with 3 double chairs when they can go to the big mega hill with the high speed quads. Nobody buys the K2 4500, even though it comes from the same mold as the Axis X. Everybody has to have the best most expensive stuff, even if they really can't tell the difference. I get to ski tons of skis every year, and am constantly amazed at how well the cheapest, low end skis perform. Heck, the Rossi Development Cut rentals are a complete blast. I even like the Rebel better than the old Bandit X. Oh well.
