Haystack was closed this past weekend, though it may be open now. It's not the biggest item on the Mt. Snow plate, and each year they seem to move it further down the rungs of importance.
But when it's open, it's a great place to learn, away from the crowded boulevards of Mt. Snow. Sure, you don't get the same vertical; but the mountain is the perfect scale for learning, and even the tougher terrain is comparable to Snow. If it's open (and I'd call ahead to get the schedule from the Mt. Snow brass), it's definitely a better place to learn.
And as was posted on SJ, Bromley is the best learning hill in the greater Manchester-Townshend-Jamaica area. It's only 10 minutes up the road from Stratton, heading toward Manchester.
