Eric, I used to lead trips as the president of the IBM Ski Club in San Jose. If you love the joy people get from skiing, it's worth it. We'd take bus trips up to Tahoe, and we'd usually fill them. The folks I worked with at the areas were universally great and very helpful. As has been said, you need to be organized and interested in making the trip the best possible experience for everyone, then you have to get out there and market it and sell it.
It's work, but it's rewarding.
