Philadelphia Area Skiers

Hey all, I have noticed quite a few Philadelphia area residents on the boards. I was wondering what everyone's favorite local resort was? Also if anyone has skied out this way yet this year. Luckily I was in Utah last weekend and went skiing at Park City, Alta, and Snowbird.

You missed our Philly Get together over Thanksgiving. Maybe we can do something in January. As far as local skiing. You will NOT get me to Blue, but Camelback, Elk or even Frost might be an option. Local to me is Hunter, it takes 3.75 hours to get to from Philly to Hunter and that is well worth it over ANY Pocono area.

If anyone wants to do another Philly get together, I would be up for it.

WEll Phil, I don't think you made yourself clear! Let's try to put something together. In the mean time, I am up for blue any time, Sorry Phil! just one hour so its OK for me. I would be up for Hunter or Windham or Elk. Phil did you check that out? I have never skied there.

Hey Philly folks...
Hey Blizzboy, I was out in Utah 2 weeks ago http://forums.epicski.com/showthread.php?t=21602
for some of the best conditons I've seen. (Solitude, Brighton and Alta)
I typically run up to Blue really early on Sat or Sun mornings and get outta there by lunch-ish. It looks pretty dreadful there right now but if anyones heading up on Jan 1st or 2nd I might be interested in gettin together.
But am also up to hitting Elk or Camelback too.

My favorite hill in PA happens to match my name on here, ... imagine that.

I skied there Sunday. It was great, my first time out this year. Two trails open, Susquehanna and Tioga. There were more instructors and SP-ers than regulars.

It was snowing off and on all morning. At 2:00 the sky darkened, winds picked up, the temp. dropped, it started snowing and blowing, and the wind chill was well below zero. Everyone cleared out and I was one of maybe 20 people on the mountain. Like I said, it was great for the first day out.

Count me in. A suggestion: Perhaps we all go to the same hill, and have a get together at a local bar at the end of the day?

now, THAT would be a novel idea. Makes sence for us to ride up together.

Who wants to do the Seven Springs thingy in January?

Blue is nothing special, but like you said it is only an hour!

How does Elk sound to everyone? It really is imo the best resort in PA, the 2 hour drive won't be too bad if it will be for a nice get together. It's a shame that I didn't know about this place for your last get together. The Gen. Lafayette is only 5 mins from my house! Anyway I'm open to some more suggestions and any other ideas you guys may have.

On a side note, what was the Warren Miller film that was playing at Plymouth Meeting or something?

Phil, would you lower yourself to go to Elk? I would like to try it. You up for it?

Let's pick a day. Anyone up for next week sometime?

How bout Elk on Sunday Dec 26th or Jan 2nd?

Blizzboy, the Warren Miller film was "Impact" this year and it played in late October at Plymouth Meeting. Next year we all should plan on going to it together...then after for drinks, etc...

Sorry guys.. I will be in Vermont for both weekends. The weekend after that is the 7 Springs GTG, I was planning on shooting out for the Sunday ski. The Following Sunday I am open. Also, what about Fridays? I am off on them if that helps.

I should have mentioned it before but I will be in Mexico from the 26th through 3rd so that is no good for me but hopefully you guys can get something put together. I'm still in college so basically any time is good for me between now and late Jan.

How was "impact"? I'm a big fan of his films but I haven't really seen that much. Do you know any places that sell his movies?

I've never been to Seven Springs but I hear it is highly congested and HIGHLY overrated, is this true? Also how about after those weekends, will you be free then?
The 26th is not too good but the 2nd could work. Any Friday is fine as well.

7S, IMO is Highly overrated, but I am basicly going just for the company.

I will be available after those weekends, but would rather get out on a Friday, I hate weekend crowds.

On the 26th I'm outa town -- Lake Placid, provided I can get the heater in my truck fixed.

Also, I think it will be Jan 2nd until Elk has most of their trails open. Right now they only have two ways down from the top.

Fridays are not my preference, but I'll certainly try if that is the concensus.

I will have to make more west runs this season. This isn't looking good and the recovery after everything turns to ice is going to be a challenge.

Hey Phil, just type in usairways.com select PHL to either SLC or DEN and it'll be ok...
You can get to SLC right now for as little as $198 RT.

I might be up for a PC trip, say March. Too busy before then.

I'll be back in Utah on Feb 10th to ski 2 or 3 days. That Friday the 11th at Park City, the next day most likely at Solitude. May also ski another half day that Sunday at whatever is closest to the airport. Maybe Canyons?
There's still good lodging for about $50 a night in Sandy during that period...
I'd be interested in something locally

Friday 1/7/05 is demo day at Elk, with $15 lift tix purchased in advance at Buckman's. Anybody up for that? I live in Mt. Airy, would like to carpool. Could meet at Gen. Lafayette or McMenamin's or McNally's for advance planning. Evan
