Quite frankly, most cannot. Most are demoing because sites like this and magazines tell them too. Most people can still pick a ski by doing eeni-meeni--minee-mo and make just as good of a choice and trying poorly tuned skis. These people aren't qualified to demo, most still cannot carve a turn.
I will go back to my golfing thread, "what handycap as a skier are you". I am a 18 Handycap golfing. I can "demo" 5 drivers, I will hit good shots and bad shots with all of them, this is before I get into degrees of loft or shaft stiffness. Even as a golfer, who doesn't embarress myself (too bad), I don't know. These intermediates demoing, have no clue what they are skiing and if it is good or not, because most cannot carve a turn. But if it was a "Gold Medal Winner", woo-hoo.
I took out some skis Sunday, one being the Dynastar Cross 10. Was it a good ski? Yeah. Coould I ski it and be happy? Yup. Will I? No, IMO the graphics were aweful. Yes, Graphics matter.
At this site, we love to show how much we know, big deal. All this talk and needing this high end gear is BS. Rotory Boots? Lateral Boots? C'mon, a good boot is a good boot. Yes fit is different, consentrate on that. Did I need Kryptons? No, my Flexons were fine. But the Kryptons are teh newest and greatest thing. Skis? I could get in must intermediate skis and have a blast, in fact I do, I was skiing a G66 last year. It is in the "Aspriring Carver" segment, yeah, thats me and "an Aspriring Carver". I am skiing a 10 y/old pair of PowerKarve Ladies
, that were origonaly demo skis then my wife used them for 7 years. We need to get off of our pulpets, stop splitting hairs, and turning checkers into chess.
How was that for Being Honest???
