altitude, dry air and nose bleeds

I am planning to go to vail this month. I was told that nose bleeds
can be a problem - especially for kids.

what if anything can be done about this?

A humidifier in the room at night helps (a lot of places provide these). Drink lots of fluids and stay hydrated. You can also use saline nose drops or a little vaseline on the inside of the nose, but most kids will not be very thrilled about those ideas!

Just got back from Park City on Dec 25th. The first two days my son (14) had a nose bleed at breakfast. Before bed on the second day, I gave him 500 mcg of Vitamin K. He didn't have another nose bleed for the rest (5 days) of the trip. Note that people taking anticoagulant drugs, such as Coumadin or Heparin should avoid Vitamin K supplements.
