Well, I hit the slopes today and the Diablos are a blast . I find them softer to flex than the XTs and I feel more in balance - not sure why with the balance issue but they sure were as responsive as I could ever ask for .

Gator, the balance issue is probably due to the flat ramp in the Diablos. Interesting that they are softer to flex than the XTs. Sure it wasn't the snow?!

How do the liners compare? Comfort?

I think it could of been partly the snow but I just felt better balance in the Diablos . So far as the liner , I did not once get wet and in the XTs I would not stay dry at all .
The Diablo does not have the carbon cuff as well and it could be the ramp angle that makes the boot seem less stiff but I did not think they were that stiff .

Sorry; I meant that the ramp angle (lack of it) likely is what helped your balance...

Is the liner as thin as the XT?

The liner seems about the same but the overlap of the boot seems better . I dont think either boot has a thick liner ..lol

I've skied twice now in mine. I also had XT's last season. I know what you mean about balance. The combination of a lower ramp angle and more forward lean puts you in a very powerful position. I'm still getting used to them, but they are definitely a better boot.

If you can get a pair do it . I think they are worth every penny. I should of included earlier that they did not seem as hard to pilot as well -not that the icons are hard to ski ..lol
what size boot do you ski in ? I am in Denver and maybe you could try mine if you like .

I'm in 25.5 XTs. There's no way I would expect you to have feet that small!

But, if you do, I'll take you up. Not that I'm likely to be able to get another pair of boots past the accountant this soon after the last purchase...!

Okay ,
there is no way you could fit into my boots . So, do you currently have the XT race boots ?

Toldja! XT17s, yes. Nicest, best fitting boots I've ever had. But, I do require a lift under the toe because the ramp is too great.

well,
the XT Is not what I would call a bad boot if that is what you are worried about . I am sure a good boot fitter could make that boot work just as well for you . The only problem I had with the XT was the wet issue which I could of resolved or just lived with . I would not sit here and say that the difference is one that would make you want to fly to outer space by any means . They are both great boots - It would be interesting to ski the two back to back or ski the XT with some custome work .

I have had significant custom work done on the boots (by Jeff Bergeron in Breck last year). They are really great boots. I'm not complaining at all! I've been on them three days this year already, and they really do make me smile.

I'm just a gearhead at heart, so the new stuff always tickles my fancy!

I am just like you are . I only changed boots due to the better wrap and removal of that carbon cuff - I still think the XT is a great boot .

How were the Diablo's laterally compared to the XT's? I tried the XT's last year and when I plumbed from my knee down to my foot, the plumb was on my little toe (most boots are right at 2nd toe). When I skied them, I was very, very bowlegged. I couldn't get onto the big-toe edge of my outside ski-I was constantly stuck on the inside ski. Quick initiation, but couldn't release at the end of the turn. My bootfitter said he would have trouble getting me back to neutral in that boot, since I was so far out. Too bad-the boot was of perfect flex and fit for me. Super repsonsive and powerfulI would have loved to keep it. I was thinking about checking out the Diablo if it is more neutral.

dawgcatching, I suspect that it would be possible to get you to neutral in the XT, actually. It sounds like the pair you were in may have been a little "off". I have found the XT pretty neutral...

That said, I've heard the Diablos are more upright, but not that they've changed the lateral last. But, I'll be interested to hear from Gator on it...

I think they are a little better balanced than the XT out of the box . I had a custom foot bed in the XT and before that I felt off balance - In the Diablo race pros I feel like I have all the balance I need . Although I still want a custom foot bed ..lol

Don't mean to thread hijack - but I'd be curious to know the difference in instep/heel volume between these two boots.
It seems like the Diablo has a slightly higher instep volume.
