Helli, 23y old model from Estonia, living in Sweden at the moment. She learned to carve in one year so that no snow was flying off her skiis. Just wellcome her and lest hope she joins this forum.

An Estonian model who learned to carve in a year? I hate her already.

(Just kidding. Good for her.)

Lucky you tdk6----Wish I could find my favorite student of all time. Kris R from Amarillo TX----learned to ski in VT then ran into her by accident in Colorado years later.

Wide track parallel christies with a well timed pole plant in about 2 hours. Had never seen anything like it before or since.

Yeah Uncle Louie, Im lucky. She is such a great person and she really learned to lay down nearly perfect RR tracks only one year after she stood for the first time on skiis. I was testing skiis and she had a go at whatever I was bringing to the hill. Once she put on those 157cm Atomic SL9's she refused to ski with anything else. Soon after she put down her first down payment she was getting a hang of carving and with minor guidance she was carving "dangerously" well..... She was bringing down all her girl friends for lessons and we had a good time.... Certainly a big change from wedging with 10 4y old kids down the Donnald Duck trail....

This thread makes me want to become an instructor! OK, now that I got that out of my system ...

Welcome Helli. I hope you enjoy this forum. Lots of great poeple here, although at the moment they are probably celebrating Thanksgiving - aka turkey eating party.

Speaking of skiing in Finland - I have been in Levi a couple of years ago. Nice resort. Nice skiing. Amazing how relatively serious Finns turn into wild party animals in the evening.

Welcome Helli.
Quick learners are very lucky. Its a wonderful gift to be blessed with. Skiing is instinctive to very few people. Keep learning, and understand what you learn. It is also important to find an instructor that understands how youre able to learn, as well as the natural abilities you have. Clearly you have done that. Youre luckier than most. Enjoy!

...the fact that she has the time to post shows me you didn't get a date, but did in fact succeed in getting her to the right website *thumbs up* Just messing with you.

Welcome, Helli!

Many of the mavens of the site are undoubtedly enjoying their American Thanksgiving today. You'll likely hear from more in the next few days.

Welcome to EpicSki. There's a lot of really good information here. There's also a fair share of tripe. You'll need to test it and make your own decisions. I'm sure that tdk6 can help with that, too. Don't hesitate to ask questions--or provide your own thoughts on topics here.

Once again, welcome, and we're glad to have you!

TomB - If you think the Finns are wild party animals you should see the Estonians!!! And you right, you simply have to become a ski-instructor!

Nice of you all for saying hello

Hello,
Thank you very much!!!
Wear The Fox Hat, kas sa oled ka eestist, or you just know how to say wellcome in every language.

I cant belive that just couple of years ago when I watched slalom-skiing competitions from TV, I thought it was the most boaring sport ever But now, I cant imagine my life without skiing.....
I dont believe it. Post some pictures. :-)

Welcome, Helli! Congratulations on finding a great instructor and congratulations too on your skiing progress so far! Great things can happen when the right student meets the right teacher. Don't ever stop!

Fox--what is a "tulemast"--or is that not something we can discuss in English, in public?

Best regards,
Bob Barnes

Helli, welcome... and if you are like the Estonians I've known in my life, I want to urge you to attend the Gathering this year at Kicking Horse. I never met an Estonian that wasn't fun, interesting and intelligent. Their only fault is that they don't drink quite as hard as the Ukranians.
