Atomic Carve 10.16's, any comments?

Got two young ones now, 15 & 9 months, so I'm not as up to date and skiing as much, but need a good ripper, bumper, eastern carver but a slow(ish) agreeable ski as I take my little ones into the wonderful sport of skiing. I'm 185# and am looking towards the 10.16 in 170 to just have all around fun. What are your thoughts. I'll sure demo, but respect the information I find here first. By the way, anything except ATOMIC is NOT an option. Probably looking towards next season as a full time "ski-dad". Can't wait!!

I skiied these monday at Vail in a 170 and LOVED them!!! I'm 6' 180pds level 6-7 and demoed them just to get the feel of a slalom carver type ski. i'll never go back to a mid-fat. These were so much fun on the groomers and held like nothing i've ever skied even on the hard scraped off icy stuff inept snowboarders leave behind. I could lay them on edge and carve till I could touch the ground with my hand (they carve nice short-moderate turns. I didn't try any long fast turns as it was crowded but my guess is they're a bit short for my weight to be stable) but I had no trouble skidding them either. They were super fast edge to edge so I could do the fall line dance too. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face!!!

That said I'd probably go with 180's as the 170 were not too stable going straight. I never go straight on the hill but on the catwalks I had to watch myself as they never really settled down. they wiggled slightly even at moderate speeds. Also i took them in about 6" of crud and they were a bit edgy and grabby and sank too. I only stayed in this stuff for 100 yrds or so and my lack of experience was probably part of the problem so I can't give a good opinion plus i think 180's are my better size and certainly would have helped in these conditions. Also i only went thru the bumps I had too (hate the bumps) but had no problem since they're so short and light i could just force them to skid turn whenever

In all I LOVED these ski's and plan to demo the 180's this wkend. I'll tell you how that goes.

Trey, certainly let me know how the 180 works for you, I'm kind of in between sizes but have found the "shorter" skis to be fun. Not so stable, but fun, short turns and quick, slow speeds and medium. Appreciate your reply, do it again. Thanks, Nikki---

I like short ski's too, Nikki. I ski the mod x in a 174 and that's a good size for me. I'm just curious to try the 10.16's in a 180 since i suspect that's the size Atomic would recommend. Have to wait till next wkend though as I'm sick today...

Hope you feel better soon, Trey. But really, let me know if you try these skis in a certain size, whatever it is. I'm really interested, just wish I could get a "get out of Jail free card" and demo some. See ya, NIKKI
