Perfect town in CanadaMy husband and I drove through BC and checked out all the ski resorts before moving our family over from Australia, and we chose Rossland/Red Mountain. Not only is the skiing unbelieveable, but there is a large proportion of highly educated, very interesting people in this town. Many who were quite successful in the city, but chose this place for lifestyle, started small businesses, and truly care about the place. And yes, we do seem to be at the beginning of a boom period, but who knows. As long as growth is sufficient to keep the high school open, most people quite like it the way it is. You can fly straight into Spokane and take a shuttle up (2hrs45min), then rent a car locally and tour around after a few days if you decide you want to hit Fernie and Nelson. If you can either start a business or work remotely from Rossland, it's great, but if you need to work for a big corporation, then it's true that Calgary would be a better bet. I have another friend who lives in Bend OR and spends lots of time up here - I can give you her contact info if you want to chat with someone with your perspective.
