Which areas of Vail should I be concentrating on if I like Steeps?
Of your reference mountains,I'm only familier with Squaw. Squaw has MUCH steeper terrain than Vail. Some of that stuff at Squaw is downright nuts ! I seem to remember that the headwall at Kirkwood was also steeper than most stuff at Vail.
Try Ghengis Kahn and Siberia bowl, there's some decent stuff. I always ski Dragon's Teeth in China bowl. It's marked as an "extreme skiing" trail, which is a joke. It's called Dragon's Teeth because there's lots of big rocks jutting out that you need to negotiate around, but IMHO there's plenty of room to do so.
You really have to look around. Some of the stuff is pretty tame, but the challenges are there if you hunt them down.
