Good information ski_rick. Squaw will have limited opeations with 6 lifts (not KT22, olymipic or cornice) Lift details here: http://www.squaw.com/winter/mtnreport.html
Sierra at Tahoe is also opening. Their first day is noon to 4:00 Friday with $5.00 lift tickets for the first 1/2 day. Regular hours on Saturday ($44) and Sunday ($25 with costume). Details here http://www.sierratahoe.com/winter/index.asp
Sierra reports base of 3-feet at the lodge to 6-feet on the summit. Keep in mind, some of the diamond runs have rocks the size of a full size truck, so 6-feet probably will not open East-About or Upper Dynamite. Most of the rest of the area should be good to go by Saturday. So far, not much publicity about this opening, could keep the crowds down.
Based on what I saw skiing at Kirkwood last Saturday, they have the best top to bottom conditions of the three areas, (along with some of the slowest lifts remaining on the planet). Opening day last week was excellent, and they have added at least 2-feet to that. Lots and lots of still untracked terrain on the top of the mountain will still be untouched when they open. This is one to get to early if you possibly can!
